Default LCD TV Issue

CP knows everything. Is this the inverter? I've tried different cables, resets etc. Had anyone replaced one and was it worth it? It's about a 10 yr old TV so it doesn't owe me much but thought I'd check in case someone knew of an easy fix.

No expert advice on what caused it or what the fix is, however on a 10 year old 40inch (guessing by pic) insignia I'd be willing to bet there's almost zero chance of a fix being worth it now.

Do you mean you could open the back and do the fix yourself or you would need a technician? Cause they say now a days pretty much the second you need to pay someone a rate to open a TV you're better off grabbing a current model on sale.

Especially a week away from Black Friday.

How did it start? It might give insight where to start diagnosing.

If that's a 10 year old TV, I'm assuming it's 55" or less. You can easily have those size TVs (especially 49" and less) for like $300-400 black friday, open box etc. options for smart TV and 4K. Even less if you find some good 1080P clearance deals and options. Don't pay someone to fix it.

I'd suggest buying a replacement and tinkering with that on the side.

Based on my limited knowledge and Googling, something like that is supposedly one of the following:
- Issues with cables/connectors
- Magnetic field
- Excessive heat damaging the screen from behind (but usually looks slightly different to that?).

No idea what the actual cause is there though, but it doesn't necessarily seem like it's an optimistic salvage.

Black Friday sale at Best Buy, bottom left of the first page there. Insignia 50" 1080p LCD. Regular $350 on for $200, available online at 7pm Thursday. I'd just grab that.

Seems like if you have Rakuten, you can get 2% cash back on online Bestbuy purchases on top of whatever cash back you get on a credit card as well.

It was the MIL’s TV. We bought a new OLED and gave her our old Plasma (she’s old, she can use the extra heat.) I thought if it was an easy fix I would. I’m unlikely to do anything major so if someone wants to tinker with it, you can have it.

We sort of did that actually. Initially some scenes looked sort of blocky, like it was 16 bit resolution. We noticed it first and she said she didn't really see it until we pointed it out. It clearly got worse though to the point even a legally blind lady could see it.

Get the MIL one of these: TCL 50" S425 4K Smart TV. I got one for my MIL when her old 37" Sony flatscreen died, and she absolutely loves it. Hard to beat for the money.
