Flames take on the Islanders on 3-game win streak

BOTTOM LINE: The Calgary Flames seek to extend a three-game win streak with a victory over the New York Islanders.

New York is 22-17-12 overall and 13-6-7 in home games. The Islanders are 6-8-6 in games they serve more penalty minutes than their opponents.

Calgary is 24-22-5 overall and 12-11-4 in road games. The Flames have gone 6-10-1 in games they have more penalties than their opponent.

The teams match up Saturday for the second time this season. The Islanders won the previous matchup 5-4 in a shootout.

Islanders, Flames back on track ahead of encounter

After a slight delay, the New York Islanders are enjoying the new-coach bounce and are looking for more when they play host to the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon in Elmont, N.Y.

With Thursday's 6-2 thumping of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Islanders are riding a two-game winning streak and are on a 3-2-1 run since Patrick Roy took over coaching duties from the fired Lane Lambert.

5 Things - Flames @ Islanders

But there’s definitely a different feel about the group: one part youthful enthusiasm, another of newfound confidence that the team’s veterans figure is bringing a renewed sense of cohesiveness.

“I just like the energy and the pace, the way we’ve played together as a team the last couple of games,” Flames captain Mikael Backlund commented Friday.

It’s been great, it’s the deepest we’ve felt all year,” forward Blake Coleman added. “Obviously a lot of new bodies in the lineup, and a lot of energy brought to the group.

“I think we’re having fun, it’s been pretty infectious; it’s only two games, but we’re right back in the mix now thanks to that start.

Getting pretty quick now, have all the sites lined up and know what I'm looking for. Takes about 1/2 -3/4 of an hour. Photos and articles take longest, but I've got that down pretty good now as well!
I usually do these first thing in the morning before work, gets me up to date as well.

Go Flames, Sabres, Coyotes, Flyers! I’m on the Rhett Warrener train. Make the trades and the playoffs!

This should be a game of 2 teams who have scored important victories since the All Star break and together with fundamental recent changes (NYI- Roy, CGY- Kuzmenko) both feel they could be ripe for a run. I’ve been impressed with Hanifin’s work QBing PP1 in both games since the break and Pachal has been impactful and more dynamic than I was expecting.
Go Flames!

If the Flames sell off the remaining UFAS and make the playoffs I think 99% of fans will be happy with that. Eliminate the Canucks in the first round and everyone is back on the bandwagon.

That's been my approach since they started bringing up Wranglers after a miserable start in October. I hate aiming for a lottery pick, the odds just aren't good enough. And they're too good to get low enough for the higher odds anyway, so might as well trade the UFA's, work towards the future but make the playoffs anyway.

With all the trades between the two teams, a CGY vs VAN opening round would be fun to see.

You have been here long enough to know that won't inspire anything positive from the usual suspects. Nothing makes those posters happy unless its negative.

Hear hear!

It would bring me more joy to make the playoffs than a normal year if they did it after wheeling and dealing players (to their rivals no less) and rallying around that.

Too many games left to be content with watching them throw games. That's hard to do with vezina Markstrom between the pipes, so may as well go for it!

Also who doesn't get hot and bothered by the idea of Kuzzy lighting it up then giving "loaded, cup favorite" Vancouver a run in round 1?
