Signed for next year at 775K? Looks like though that it goes from a 2 way this year to 1 way next year. Though at 775K you could still put him in the minors.

He’ll be top 6 after trading Hanifin/Tanev unless they get someone back

Regardless, he is probably pulling for a trade harder than anyone else

Former junior teammate of Matthew Phillips.

I think this is an alright pickup. Replaces DeSimone and allows some flexibility. I don’t think any of the current Wranglers should be too disappointed by him coming in to play ahead of them either.

We lack physicality so I guess that's good. If they play him and Gilbert together on the third pair things may get quite goony though.

Going in with zero expectations here.

Well I for one have never heard of him.

But it seems like a decent pickup for the waiver-wire.

I think the best thing we can do is start roughing up unfavourable teams.

A tweener stay at home defenseman is always going to have a poor player card.

Yeah, I agree. He had much better stats in the 10 games last year. I expect a similar level of play to Mackey when he was here. Anything more is a bonus.

That's the biggest problem that analytics hasn't cracked yet: accurately gauging the defensive contribution of a single defenceman.

That said, Pachal looks like a replacement-level player, which is about what one would expect on waivers.

I wonder if the Canucks may have tried to pick this guy up for depth? It's well known they are looking to boost the depth on their D in the 6/7 spot and a RHD off of waivers would have been a nice fit.

42 blocked shots,23 hits, -2 for plus/minus, averages 14:31 a game. Not to bad defensively. One year in the whl he had a little offensive. I think I like this move.

I'm pretty sure that he was also a part of the AHL all-star game last year. Had at least 1 goal there too.

The lack of depth after trading Zadorov (paging dino) was exposed badly. I've been expecting something like this for a while.

Is it, though? Or is it just that analytics doesn't match expectation bias therefore a "problem" is manufactured?

Analytics isn't perfect, but if a defenseman is clearly struggling to move the puck out of his zone with his first pass, that's not something fancy and unmeasurable.

That was the one thing about the Young Guns. We lost a lot but at least we hurt the other guys!
