I more meant... just building the outdoor arena on the Salt Lake itself, but with hoses and whatnot. Like they do for the football stadiums they use sometimes.

The Salt Shakers!

I mean the branding and mascot just write themselves.

Come on! I know you're all envisioning an angry salt-shaker wielding a hockey stick on the front of a jersey!

It'd have angry eye-brows and everything.

Aw...I've gotta copyright this!

Must be all those former-Albertans

Really though, can't blame Arizona taxpayers for not wanting to fund even more of a sports franchise that no one is interested in. It just hasn't worked in PHX. You can blame the arena placement, arena size, ownership issues, whatever, lack of fans, TV deals, etc. it doesn't really matter. It really was a nice try, but the move is a long time coming. Houston, Salt Lake, Portland, heck, I bet Milwaukee would be a great spot too. Hockey can thrive in niche US markets like the MLS can. Even Austin could be an interesting option. Would rather see them try something new than keep force-feeding this thing.

Realistically, the NHL could announce that the team was moving tomorrow and attendance wouldn't really be hurt.

Your timeline is way off.

UBS Arena broke ground in September 2019 and the Isles played their first game in November 2021. It was supposed to be done in October, but they had a couple problems (COVID).

Little Caesars was just over 2 years construction, the entire planning process took 5 years from announcement to occupancy.

If they used an existing HOK design they'd be playing in a new rink for the 2027 season.

Arena design and construction are not the long poles here.
