I am guessing that some of the reason for this has to do with what happened under Hartley, and how it was addressed by management. That is not to say that Hartley was the right coach—I tend to think that the transition from him to Gulutzan was too drastic, and happened at the wrong time.

And with all due respect, I would expect that if you took the time to read and understand something that is pretty matter of fact once, that re-reading it should likely not move the needle on how impressed you would be after that subsequent reading. It was a post, admittedly not a great work of literature, and also I am glad at the same time that it hasn’t aged poorly for you, either.

I don’t know, saw you mentioning Torts ‘going to bat for’ his guys. Assumed that it had to do with how he communicated about them externally

I think, also, that people would be remiss in forgetting that Sam had his career year, 36 pts., in Hartley’s last season.
So there’s that. Right?

I don’t think he had a moustache back when Hartley was coaching

Gaudreau and Monahan had career years under Peters. Backlund and Ferland had theirs under GG. Iginla under Greg Gilbert.

Mike Keenan. Iginla scored 50 goals and 98 points in 2007-08. It's ridiculous that he was a full 32-points ahead of the next highest scoring player on the roster (Kristian Huselius).
Also, in 2006-07 he scored 94 points in 70 games.
What a player.

Bump.
Hartley's Omsk won 3-0 in Game 1 of the KHL playoffs.
His squad also features the likes of Kovalchuk, Yakupov, Voynov, Emelin, and Max Talbot.

I still consider 2002 his career year. First, I was mostly looking at the goals. Plus that was his Ross, Richard and Pearson award year, and pre-lockout, when the dead puck era was in swing. He was the best player in the game bar none that year. Screw Jose Theodore.

Was he third in Hart voting that year? Lost to Ovi/Crosby I think.

This series is over.
Avangard (Omsk) 4 : Avtomobilist (Yeakterinburg) 1
Hartley won.
Ilya Kovalchuck turned it up a notch and was a superstar player for Avangard. Pavel Datsyuk didn't/couldn't do much for Peters in this series.

Strong case to be made that the 2019 Flames are the worst 1st place team of the cap era.

It's still hard to believe this same core (for the most part) 2 years ago at this time had almost sealed up 1st place in the West, and 2nd overall. What happened???

I tried to google if there was ever a coach who won both the Stanley Cup and Gagarin Cup, and instead came across this 2015 article.
Quote:
According to Sport-Express’ Igor Eronko, Chernyshenko has said that a game pitting the Gagarin Cup winning club — the KHL’s post-season champion — against the Stanley Cup champions in what would likely be a one-game showdown. The idea for the champion vs. champion game, said Chernyshenko, is being discussed with NBC

That sounds like it could be a fun thing. Maybe scrap the All Star lame-ness and make this a new thing.

EDIT: It appears Keenan has won both.

Nah. KHL hockey level is much lower than NHL. It would not be a good game to watch. I watched a few KHL games, they are simply no match to an NHL game intensity, speed and skill level.

I have always thought that the Gagarin Cup was one of the most spectacular looking trophies in sport:

They got a week off.
Johnny’s dad had a heart attack.
They were led by fools who weren’t up to the job.
They didn’t have stability in net.
Time caught up to Gio.
Brodie left.
