Default Hartley vs. Peters

I thought this was thread-worthy.

"Avangard" (Omsk) lead by Bob Hartley will be going off against Bill Peters' "Avtomobilist" (Yekaterinburg) in the first round of KHL playoffs. Other Flames connection - German Titov is "Avtomobilist" assistant coach, offense). Russian hockey commentators predict Hartley's team winning the series. We can make our own bets.

Omsk the best jerseys in the business.

I'll take Omsk and Hartley in 6.

I always liked Bob. I don’t care what anyone says.

His teams weren’t boring, and punched above their weight class.

The coach on the far right in the first pic.. Who is that again? He was a Flames assistant coach wasn't he?

I sure wasn't bored when we finished first in the West. Peters produced some entertaining hockey as well.

But turns out Peters is not a great person, so I'm pulling for Bob.

To be honest, I think I'd rather watch this than another Flames/Sens game.

The 14-15 team was so much more fun than the 1st in the West team - that group played awful hockey for 2 months down the stretch, and had their doors blown off in a manner that was unbecoming of their regular season.

Strong case to be made that the 2019 Flames are the worst 1st place team of the cap era.

Oh, come on. By players' public accounts, as a Head Coach, Hartley was as much of an a$$hole as Peters. This is going to be a a fair match.

I've been saying for years I wish we could easily watch KHL matches in North America.

Keyword: easily. AKA on regular cable TV.

Professional coaches, as a rule, are not nice people.

Nor are they paid to be.

There are still things you can’t do - I’ve yet to hear anything Hartley did that a thousand other coaches wouldn’t have also done.

While I’m sure there are many unfortunate examples of coaches being racist to black players, until they come to light, I can only assume that they’re far fewer and of lesser scale than Bob Hartley’s garden variety unpleasantness.

Yeah, I liked Bob. There is a general understanding that he was a hard ass and I am confident that the reality is different than what a lot of people have in their heads

Tanguay said Hartley was demanding but made him a better player, and called Bob for advice when he wasn’t coaching him

Johnny attended his hockey camp as a guest counsellor after he was fired and spoke nicely of him

It was mentioned by someone here with connection to the team that the kids liked Hartley and the veterans hated him

Sarich said Bob wouldn’t let them pass backwards, and that after he had been scratched 11 games and had some beers, Hartley dressed him to show him up. A proud and bitter guy on the back 9

I guess it was the opposite of when he scratched Johnny, Monny and Bouma after the super bowl

So we have found out that the coach who was brought in to clean up the country club, instill work ethic and accountability turned out to be demanding.

I got piled on for saying this when the Flames hired him, but I agree 100 percent.

Hartley ordered guys with concussion issues who didn’t want to fight to go do it or be demoted to the AHL. Sarich says he’s the worst coach he ever had. Roy destroyed Hartley’s office, he hated him so much. McGratton hated him. Kipper as well. And he is two-faced - Mr. Congeniality with the press, a-hole with the players. At least with Sutter what you saw was who he was. Hartley also played favourites big time, according to some ex-players.
