oh wow, this blew me away. new band called Vainglory with a female vocalist that nails classic thrash vocals better than most men do. i didn't believe it was actually a woman until looking them up. entire album sounds killer though
Thats a yngwie malmsteen song
with heavier lyrics.
They are Great!
Its also kind of funny that they need 2 guitarists to sound
like Yngwie!

Really dig that Volbeat stuff Hemi! Methinks I'm going to have to spend some serious time in this thread soon.
they seem like they might be on the verge of breaking out big. when i first heard some samples of their first album, The Strength / The Sound / The Songs, they were nowhere online. i had to order the album overseas through amazon.co.uk, paid quite a bit for it to. but their 2nd album i bought through amazon.ca, there are some very well seeded torrents out for them now, their youtube videos are climbing rapidly in views and i'm hearing their name mentioned more and more
they're already pretty popular in Europe, but i think Volbeat could be huge in north america if they got the proper exposure
Acid Bath is also one of my all time favorite bands. Without question Dax Riggs is my favorite vocalist... not so much the sound of his voice, but more from a lyrical standpoint.
The man is a poet.
Acid Bath is one band I wish had more material out. Sad to see this great band be undone by a drunk.

No kidding.
Having read his early poetry from the Acid Bath days, I can definitely agree.

I just ordered up a copy of his latest solo CD (We Sing of Only Blood or Love) and can't wait until that arrives. Acid Bath were amazing. Same goes for any of his other project: Deadboy & Elephantman
Listening to that latest Lair of the Minotaur and digging what I've heard so far. Not quite as good as The Ultimate Destroyer, but maybe I need a few more listens...
The latest Death Angel, as mentioned by another poster, is also decent. Doesn't compare to Ultra-Violence or Frolic Through the Park though.
I can't think of much more that's been released in 2008 that I've been digging on.
And a band I recently had the pleasure of seeing live... truley a unique band. Its like death metal, the symphony, and cirque de soleil all rolled into one.
This is a little bit of a tease, I know, but Testament will be playing in Victoria (got my tickets at Lyle's this afternoon) on May 15th as well as Van a night or two later. Skolnick is back playing lead guitar and hot damn is he incredible. Can't wait for that show and the best part is - it's at a small night club. So, any Testament fans near the Coast or those willing to make the trip...
I just saw Zimmer's Hole last night in Victoria. Awesome gig if you have a (warped) sense of humour as well as a love for the cheezy side of Metal. Go check them out in Calgary if they still have tickets available. Fun will be had by all... trust me.

Skolnick was/is the best part of Testament IMO. Love his band The Alex Skolnick Trio... very cool jazz/fusion project. Check it out....
well over half their fan base was lonely metal heads that just bought their dvd/went to their concert to rub one out to tarja.
the rest of the band could re-invent themselves and be popular but it won't be nightwish. tarja = nightwish.
i used to think that until i actually gave their new album a chance. it's not as good as Once (their best IMO) but it's damn close and still very Nightwish
i've been waiting for their new album WAY too long, and with it being their first new material in almost a decade it's no exaggeration. this is from a handful of songs from the album that have found their way online (there's a torrent floating around with high quality rips of 8 tracks), and after listening to them all Formation of Damnation sounds like an early candidate for album of the year. they pick up right where The Gathering left off and don't sound like they've missed a beat in 9 years
i can't really put to words how incredibly pumped i am for this, Testament is legendary
Damn! This new Arsis - We Are The Nightmare is purdy good. Technical, but with plenty of melody (something a lot of "heavy" bands tend to forget about).
The new Torche (Meanderthal) is amazing as well. I'll definitely be grabbing a copy when it is officially released. Not sure if I would categorize it as Metal. But, that seems to encompass a number of different subsets in this day and age.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but anyone who liked Dog Fashion Disco should check out their new incarnation: Polkadot Cadaver. It basically picks up where Adultery left off. Fan-tastic.
Anyone checked out the new album Gods of the Earth by The Sword?
I've given it a couple listens. While it's not quite as strong as their first album, it's still a decent album. If you liked the first one, you might want to check out this one. The video that I posted is quite similar to their first album, but the rest of the album is a bit different.
