Igor Korobov, head of the GRU since 2016 that likely had a hand in operations in the Crimea, in US elections manipulation and Skripal Novichok poisonings in the UK, is dead under totally normal and non-suspicious circumstances according the Kremlin state news agency.

Quote:
The head of the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency, has died after a “serious and long illness”, the Kremlin has announced.

The defence ministry said General Colonel Igor Korobov, 62, who has run the spy agency since 2016, was “a wonderful person, a faithful son of Russia and a patriot of his homeland.” It did not give further details about his death.

The agency is believed to be Russia’s largest foreign intelligence outfit, and stands accused over the Novichok attack in Salisbury that targeted former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia. The attempt, notable for its blunders, has strained ties between Russia and the UK.

Korobov's death comes after a long string of mysterious Russian intelligence deaths over the last few years. Putin covering his tracks with a state sanctioned hit I would assume after the botched Skripal poisoning operation. Bellingcat managed to uncover the operational structure and names of a large number of GRU agents

Russian hit squad is active in Europe again, this time slitting the throat throat of a prominent Chechen blogger who recently made a bunch of comments criticizing Putin and Moscow backed Chechen leader Kadyrov.

Quote:
Chechen blogger Imran Aliyev, known for his criticism of the Kremlin-backed leader of the Russian North Caucasus region of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has been found dead with multiple stab wounds in a hotel in France, according to reports.

AFP quoted unnamed sources close to the investigation late on February 3 as saying that the 44-year-old blogger, who resided in Belgium and was known online as Mansur Stary (Old Mansur), was found dead on January 30 in his hotel room in the northern city of Lille.

According to the source, Aliyev arrived from Belgium a day earlier with another man, "who presumably had the same nationality."

The prosecutor's office in Lille said no one had been detained so far in the investigation but declined to provide further details, according to AFP.

On January 30, a local newspaper, La Voix du Nord, reported that a man's body was found with multiple stab wounds in a hotel in Lille. The report did not identify the man.
