I think they will all have their chance. But I believe either Fantenberg or Prout will start.

Hopefully we will see a few of these D options tomorrow night against L.A. If one of those players really steps up and makes a case for themselves I could see them getting rewarded with the first game of playoffs. This year we have been blessed with a very solid D core that has been switched up based on merit, so I'm expecting ever D outside of the big 5 to bring their best games these last few games!

With that being said, I would think that the order as of right now heading into the L.A game has two tier's:

1st
- Fantenburg
- Prout/Valimaki (based on tomorrow's game)

2nd
- Stone
- Kylington

Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Brodie

Valimaki is our top prospect. I'm sure the organization would like to develop him by giving him a taste of the NHL playoffs.

Stone and Prout are not really part of the plans outside of depth and Kylington is a player that likely requires a bit more sheltering so will likely be learning from the sidelines.

I think Valimaki or Fantenberg are the most likely and since Valimaki is such a big part of the future he may have the edge if he can provide similar or better results than the rest.

It's nice to have 10 capable guys so we can rest these last 3 games.

Handedness aside

Giordano
Hamonic
Andersson
Hanifin
Brodie
Valimaki
Fantenberg
Kylington
Prout
Stone

Now that the clinching is done I think we see Valimaki come into some games. Whoever looks the strongest in the last few games between him and Fantenberg gets the start, and honestly until injuries hit I think we see a rotation on the bottom pairing.

Big question to me is what first pairing do we see. Gio-Brodie or Gio-Andersson

If Valimaki has a solid 3 games I think he gets into the discussion with Fantenberg. I think the organization will have Valimaki above Kylington on the depth chart. It’s nice to have these problems, I have confidence in the flames entire D core!

Yup. I'm fine keeping him up-to-speed with some games to close out the season and make him one of the first guys in for the playoffs if a shakeup is needed or injuries occur but I hope he's not the sixth guy in game 1.

He was not just on the ice of three goals but he was a direct cause of those three goals. If the Sharks hadn't played a nasty game last night against Vegas then I'm not so sure the Flames win this one.

I feel Valimaki is the best of the bunch and gives us the best chance to win. I wouldn’t be opposed to using Prout for a game or two per series (especially later against bigger teams), but that’s all I’d use him for. I know he had a few bad giveaways tonight but other than that I think he’s actually been pretty solid considering his role.

If Prout plays in the playoffs ahead of anyone, Peters should be fired.

He’s played 17 games on the 2nd best team in the league. Seems like an NHLer to me.

Yeah Prout should be low on the depth chart but if he does play I’ll trust the coach that just led the Flames to their best season in 30 years. Your hyperbole is is unnecessary.

I think there could be a mix of all 5 of them in the 6th spot.
I would also think that we will be a few of them in the next few games.

IMI if Valimaki gets in the lineup this week and shows well he will be the guy but if not then maybe Fantenberg. Prout seems like a good guy and teammate but I feel he probably played himself to the bottom of the depth chart last night.

What if we can somehow create a new player that by combining the strengths of all 5 players. Science!

Fantenberg starts, but any of the other guys could see game time, especially in a long run.
I think Stone plays in a couple of these last 3 games to get up to speed, and maybe Valimaki too. They are 7&8 on my opinion.

Tough question, might depend on who the Flames end up playing in the 1st round

In fairness to Prout he could probably use a few games to get up to speed before we throw him under the bus no? He hasn't exactly been playing lately.

That said IMO its Fatenberg without question.

Who's throwing him under the bus? Surely you watched the game last night? I'm sure he can be better than he was last night but I'm not sure you want to risk that happening in the playoffs if other guys are looking good.

Dumbest post I’ve read in awhile. Peters has been one of the best coaches in the league, but yeah fire him for his choice of 6th dman. Brilliant.
