Sad news. Underrated drummer, too.

If you’ve ever heard Stones songs covered, something isn’t right. You know the lead singer doesn’t have Mick’s swagger, and the guitarist is adequate, but it’s something else that you can’t pinpoint.

It’s Charlie.

The drummer sounds like a drum machine and doesn’t have his nuance.

RIP

This is not the first member of the Stones to pass away.

There was Brian Jones, one of the founders, and then Ian Stewart. Ian was their rock & roll pianist and was told by management that he didn't have the right looks for the band and to stay out of the limelight. He happily complied and played keyboards at the back of the stage and loaded their tour van and drove them around.

Keith Richards said: "Ian Stewart. I'm still working for him. To me The Rolling Stones is his band. Without his knowledge and organisation ... we'd be nowhere"

Dear Charlie ,
I, like so many, are sad today…
However, knowing there are no words, still I’m driven to say to you…“ You, in life, had style!!”
You as a player were above and beyond!! You are my dream come true!! No one could drive a band like you!!
Most of all, again, the meaning of style comes to mind .. For sure …in simply everything you did!!!
Family took such focus in your life...in an often-unfocused world you lived in.
And in the best of humor…my God you were one hell of a sharp dresser!!
With SO much respect…and support to your family
There is now you, to keep the two and four, and MORE!!
You will be missed by so many…
Love and respect,
Mick Fleetwood & Fleetwood Mac

Thought this bit from his wiki page was pretty funny:

Quote:
Stewart played golf, and as road manager showed a preference for hotels with courses. Richards recalls: "We'd be playing in some town where there's all these chicks, and they want to get laid and we want to lay them. But Stu would have booked us into some hotel about ten miles out of town. You'd wake up in the morning and there's the links. We're bored to death looking for some action and Stu's playing Gleneagles.
