The amount of people cheering the cancellation on social media is truly depressing.

I guess this means the spurs, chaps and lasso have to stay in the bedroom this year...

I really really dont understand things some times.

OK...so the Stampede isnt your thing. Great. So dont attend. Simple.

But taking pleasure in something being taken away from 10's of thousands of people who do? Never mind the job losses and general economic impact it has.

Its petty, ignorant and selfish at best.

Those are just lames that enjoy schadenfreude of others not being able to enjoy themselves because they live miserable lives.

It really makes no sense otherwise.

Well certainly a lot of it is from people worried about the animals, but a lot of it isn't. Truly something I can't comprehend.

We were better off in so many ways before the age of social media.

Amazing the way some people think.

No Stampede sucks the big one.

A great example on Global this morning.

The rotary club is who puts on the dream home raffle. They do tremendous charity work through the year on big and small scales.

Last year they made 600K on the lottery. 67% of their entire budget.

That is gone.

And people say....yay?

Yeah this will hurt a lot of people and businesses who are already hurting.

Stampede is probably the busiest time of year for my mom's work and I know they have pretty much been destroyed because of the Covid shutdown. My mom is in Europe right now but if/when she returns she doesn't expect there to be any jobs.

My significant others family is heavily involved with running the stampede infield suites. I don't think they have a huge reliance on that revenue every year but they employ around 250 people for approximately three weeks during that time most of which are students or young folks that really need the $2000 or $3000 salary from the Stampede.

I think for the Stampede, if we organized a city wide event to have an epic food drive, clothing drive and assistance and people could socially distance and deliver these goods to the grounds, it would be epic.

It's pretty puzzling and demonstrates how dumb and selfish people are. Stampede is hardly my thing at all, so I just don't go. It's not hard to realize that it's just not aimed at people like me so why should that mean nobody should like it? Such an odd mindset some people have

That's not even mentioning the economic benefits

I was working in the TD Square building for a financial management company during one Stampede and vowed if I was still in the same job the next year, that was the 2 weeks I was taking my holidays. I hated it. I have zero desire to actually go to the Stampede but it is an important event in the city, particularly from a financial standpoint & it's a shame to see the grounds go dark this year, along with all the other fun summer festivals.

My mom turns 70 this year and has attended every Stampede since she was 5. Needless to say, she is pretty upset about it.
