I have always enjoyed it. Usually some good and interesting pasta dishes.

Had Pubblico the other day. Went based on recommendations from Reddit and not here! The menu was already smaller than the one online, and was told there was only one cook that night, so the menu was even smaller, no desserts. Hard to fault them on that with staffing issues the way they are right now. But it is annoying to look online and pick what you'll have, then go there and it's not even on the full menu.

The food however was sub par. Both my wife and I had the carbonara, was quite bland. Others at the table had similar issues. No one really liked their meal. To be honest, we could have gone to the Spaghetti Factory and not have noticed a difference

Ended up canceling my cardinale reservation and went to the living room with a couple who knows the owner.

Fantastic meal. Lots of food and drinks and reasonable priced. Will be back for sure cause we want to do the cheese fondue!

I finally got around to trying Hoopla Donuts as it was my kid's birthday so I figured we could grab a dozen and try it. It was a big let down. The donut itself wasn't really any better than other donuts and the flavors were very disappointing. A few of them were really bland, a couple were overly sweet and their chocolate just wasn't very pleasing.

We finally tried out the Himalayan restaurant on Saturday night. What a fantastic meal. We split the Pork Momos and we eat tried a Dal Bhat (Lamb for me and Paneer for the wife). Both were very very good. I'm not a soup guy but the yellow lentil soup that came with it was delicious! Service was quick and attentive - we will definitely be back.

Restaurants are hiring like crazy.

My oldest son started last week at Palomino, and my youngest son starts this week at Derrick Gin Mill & Kitchen. The owner behind the Hayden Block group of restaurants tells me they need people too.

damn you. damn you to hell Calgary for allowing a civic treasure like Katsuten to close its doors. yes I know there are other places offering similar meals but they're just not the same without that crack-infused Glamorgan bakery breading.

Great place! Have been a few times over the years. Tried to go for lunch a couple of weeks ago when we were in the area but didn't realize they weren't currently offering it.

Despite living here for 20 years, I’ve basically never eaten at any nice Calgary restaurants. Or anywhere for that matter.

My new goal is to try some.

Can I get a top 10? Top 5? Price is irrelevant, only concerned with quality. They don’t have to be expensive, but it’s ok if they are.

Menu suggestions are welcome, possibly necessary. It would be accurate to say I’ve never eaten in a fancy 5 course restaurant or anywhere that had any sort of avant garde approach (if that’s even acceptable terminology).

Feel free to suggest different regions/countries but worth noting that Italian is not a priority (grew up in an Italian family) but is still welcome.

My first stop is for steak. Hy’s or Vintage? Or somewhere else? Belt line preferred so I don’t have to drive.

After that, it’s wide open. Suggest away.

The tasting menu, with wine pairing, at Rouge.

I’m friends with the chef at Hy’s so I’m biased but I would go there. Vintage is in the Beltline and is decent so it’s a good choice.

Worth noting I don’t drink so wine pairings are not necessary. Thanks for the suggestion all the same though.

Alloy is in a weird location but it’s worth the drive. There’s a C train station nearby too.

Calgary's food scene isn't too stuffy, so most good places are fairly "approachable"

For tasting menus / high end, rouge and Teatro are the mainstays. Eight/Nupo is/are super good high end sushi with a tasting menu. Each one of those, be prepared to spend $300.00 on food.

Bridgette Bar and Ten Foot Henry for more vegetable focused dishes (still a ton of meat). Bridgette has a cooler vibe i would say.

Shokunin, Roy O's Kitchen, and Carino are excellent asian fusion type restaurants. Also Foreign Concept sort of fits in there as well. I recommend them all.

I personally like Vintage for steaks but Hy's has a good vibe during happy hour or friday nights. Also Chairman's down south - i didnt enjoy it as much food wise but the decor is interesting.

Too many to list really, but if you have a hankering for something, i/we will have suggestions.
