Inner Light was a terrible episode.

Dont get why it is so hyped. It was self indulgent by the writers to give Picard this alternative life he never chose. And get to put him in relationships that people wanted him to have but couldnt because of the plot restrictions. It abandoned all of the preceps of the universe to tell a completely different story around a charactor we like. Self indulgent, just like the whole flash sideways in lost. It allowed the writers to tell a story without consequences. And then the next episode all is forgotten except for the stupid flute even though living a whole separate life should really change a person.

This was at least handled better in DS9 when obrien was forced to have a virtual life sentance and came out traumitized.

TNG Recuts is much more entertaining to watch as a series.

"Yesterday's Enterprise" was, imnsho, the turning point for the series. TNG produced a far higher ratio of good-to-great episodes after that one. The back half of season 3 was pretty good... "Sins of the Father" setting up the Duras/Klingon Civil War arc, "The Most Toys" was amusing, and of course, "The Best of Both Worlds".

Aside from the two-parters, which were generally good, most of my favourite episodes focused on characters outside the Picard/Riker/Data troika. "The First Duty" was, unbelievably, a good Wesley episode. Troi had a couple good episodes when they finally stopped treating her as Ms. Fanservice. "Lower Decks" might be my favourite episode from the entire series. And "Preemptive Strike" - the perfect lead-in to Voyager that was later ruined by bad writing and a cast that mailed in their seven seasons.

I refuse to watch TNG its aged so badly, with the exception of the Picard Borg set of episodes and the Klingon civil war episodes the whole thing is just not good.

And you saw the panic in the movies when they because the Picard Data and a bunch of other guys show.

DS9 is still the best of the 4 (TNG,DS9, Voy, Enterprise) T.V. series.

Star Trek Generations: Picard and Data explore the pros and cons of an emotion chip
Star Trek First Contact: Picard saves Data from the Borg; even with the future of Earth in the balance.
Star Trek Insurrection: Picard disobeys Starfleet orders in an effort to save Data from being deactivated.
Star Trek Nemesis: Data and Picard go dune buggy riding for no apparent reason; other than future movie spin offs.

Yes, there is a lot more to each of those movies, and I enjoyed most of them. However there was greater focus on the two most popular characters; almost to a point that it watered down the rest of the crew and became tiresome. Kind of like if the NHL gave us 20 Flames- Oilers games per season; the BOA would lose something.

I always think of the TNG movies as being good movies, but poor Star Trek movies... Other than Generations, Generations sucked.

Inner light was definitely one of, if not the best episode. It also won a Hugo award.

That is because, unlike TNG, the Oilers are no good.

As far as TNG aging badly goes, I couldn't disagree more.

I find in watching re-runs I often marvel at what a great job they did with sets, costumes, props etc masking the actual time frame in which it was made.

Sure, there are several episodes each season that are cheesy and over the top, but as a whole, it's some of the best Sci Fi television of all time. So many great story lines, ethical and ideological dilemmas.

Not to mention, some of the best acting sequences in all of the Star Trek:

What a great show.

The final few seasons look amazing still today, its too bad they are not widescreen but wow they did an amazing job on special effects considering the age of the show.
