Default RIP Richard Donner

One of the greatest directors of all time, of course I remember him most as directing Superman: The Movie. He also directed The Omen and Lethal Weapon and Goonies.

Superman: The Movie is pure magic. Exactly the way the character should be portrayed. RIP Richard Donner

The first thing I thought of was the Lethal Weapon series when I read the thread title but for sure, his take on Superman is the one that all the rest aspire to. Just a brilliant job.

RIP Mr. Donner

He directed some great movies! We watch 'Scrooged' almost every year at Christmas.

We actually just watched 'Conspiracy Theory' last week.

Goonies is such a great movie, especially if you watched it when you were in the age group it was geared towards. Every kid wanted to be a Goonie. It’s probably the film that launched Sean Astin and James Brolin into their incredibly successful careers.

He made some really great flicks. Just a really good and versatile director.

I also remember that he made one of the most genuinely creepiest and frightening movies of all time with The Omen.

I loved how Donner auditioned kids for the role of Daymien:

I discovered the "Donner Cut" Superman version only a couple years ago, blew my mind.

There were scenes I'm sure I saw as a kid that were forgotten.

Thanks for everything, Mr Donner. An absolutely titanic body of work.

As an aside, people think Superman gets his power from Earth’s yellow sun, but it really comes from John Williams.

Superman (I & II) are excellent. Still the best representation of Superman we've had. Goonies is the pinnacle of kid's adventure movies. Lethal Weapon is top 3 buddy cop franchises of all time.

Maverick is also an underrated comedy western.

He had a cameo in it as a dealer and got stuck in his chair when he tried to shake Gibsons hand.

And second that Maverick was really under rated.

16 Blocks would fall into the forgotten but worth watching category.

What should be considered one of the best fantasy movies of all time, Ladyhawke. If it wasn't for the horrible electronic score, this would be near the top of my list for Donner movies.

Agreed. I bought the Donner Cut a few years ago when it was finally released on DVD/bluray. It's amazing.

Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, the Omen, the Goonies, Scrooged, and Ladyhawke are all terrific as well. Dude was an immensely talented director.

I can't think of a better place to put one of the most iconic movie themes in history.

I remember what happened now, I watched the Donner Cut without knowing it. I was so confused and thought my childhood memories were all scrambled.
