An independently organized TED Talks being held in Calgary at the Jubilee Auditorium on June 12th.

I've wanted to go to TED talks for a while but havent been able to yet, this seems like an interesting local alternative.

I didnt see a thread, but I do know that a lot of people on here enjoy TED talks so I figured I'd start a thread.

I am always a little weary of TEDx. The organizers aren't TED, they're independent, so the presenters aren't always vetted to the same extent. As a result, there's been some pseudoscientific nonsense presented at TEDx events and the brand came under heavy fire for it.

I haven't been TEDx in Calgary but I tried watching the presentations from last year. With the exception of the skier I could not get more than half a dozen minutes into the talk before switching to something else.

Which leads me to bring up an interesting form of presentation that I learned about last month called PechaKucha. In these presentations, the presenter has 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide to tell their story. My first experience with this was at the GeoConvention last month and I found that it was an exceptional way of presenting. The strict time limit was perfect because I find it is just the right amount of time during which an audience remains captive.

It appears that these PechaKucha events run about once a quarter in Calgary.
