Has Spengler always been at Christmas? I always thought it was a spring tournament for some reason.

I think you're thinking of the World HC? Spengler is always at Christmas I think.
Christmas and in Davos.

I just cant even imagine trying to afford it.
Staying somewhere in or near Davos, at Christmas, that arena is tiny so I imagine tickets are outrageous, thats why its a 'Bucket List' item.
I imagine that'd be a really, really expensive trip.

Tickets wouldn't be an issue, they're quite in line with a Flames game. Canada games go for $150 Canadian for a seat and $55cdn for the standing section behind the one net (which is actually better than most seats for viewing).
Tons of tickets available for any game, too. I'd happily stand and drink close to the ice for $55.

It really looks like a beautiful arena, I'd love to go some day.
And the atmosphere when you're watching the Spengler games seems amazing!
And then you see all of the other things set up through the City, the outdoor rinks it just all looks great.

I've always thought a 'standing section' to be kind of a cool idea, but I think within the context of hockey it would only work in a smaller arena and maybe only in a tournament setting.

I should mention though, that the gold medal game is sold out. But standing is $100cdn and $150-$200 cdn seated for that game on stub hub. So not outrageous that's for sure. The flight and accommodation will be the tough part.

Yeah, those seem like very reasonable ticket prices. Hell...its tough to go to a Flames game for that.
Flight/Accomodation/Food/Etc...thats more up in the air.
The last time I was in Switzerland a sandwich almost bankrupted me.

On hotels.com you can get a couple places for $1800-$2000 a night for two adults. Everything else is $2500-$5000 per night. Just insanity.
Flights are about $2k per person for 4 days. So flights, accommodation and tickets for lets say three games and 3 nights would be about $11500 + tickets (probably $500 if you wanted the gold medal sunday) for two. So a $14k trip, including spending to see 13th forwards and 7th defensemen compete. I know I won't be doing that one any time soon.

Yeah, and then you still somehow have to have money left over to eat, get around and do other things.
But yeah, a Swiss skiing village at Christmas? Yeah. I kind of figured accommodation would be insane.

If there was an American team entered and they won, it would be a star-spangled Spengler.
