He visited the UofC in the late 90’s and did a talk about his experiences. A girl stood up during Q+A and said her Dad passed away when she was really young, and that he sort of filled in for a lot of years, and that she would love to give him a hug if he was ok with it.

Of course he said yes, and it’s something I remember to this day as his legacy.

Loved Mr. Dressup, but I remember also liking the Friendly Giant, Popcorn Playhouse and The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, for example.
The Hilarious House of Frightenstein was appointment viewing on CFAC before school. I can’t believe they filmed all that in nine months.

An absolute classic!

My brother was on the Buckshot Show. Whenever some kid was too shy to speak to Buckshot, my brother would volunteer to come up and talk again.

Casey being a bitch in this segment...

True story. One of my earliest memories is of Casey being my "imaginary friend." I came upstairs from the TV room and asked my mom if "Casey" could stay for lunch. My mom played along and set a place for Casey with a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

My cousin was on there when he was about the same age, and when they asked him his name, he said my name for some reason (we were briefly living with them at the time with my mom after my parents' divorce). So I got a shoutout on the show I guess.

And Mr. Dressup was the GOAT. Fred Penner's Place, Sharon Lois & Bram Elephant Show, Today's Special, Friendly Giant, Under the Umbrella Tree were all solid, but Ernie Coombs was king.

That line always got me, because Hercules is seen doing things like lifting a whole mountain up and throwing it around. 10 ordinary men can do that? Really? Even 10 extra-ordinary men couldn't do that.

That show actually made me angry a lot of the time with Newton's idiocy, but I still watched it every morning because nothing else was on when I was eating breakfast.

Notwen was the real star of the show. The bizarro Newton

Loved Mr. Dressup as a kid. Some other CBC shows I liked not mentioned here were Polka Dot Door, Fables of the Green Forest and Barbapapa.

I am looking forward to the documentary I forgot Mr. Dressup was from Maine.

Early memories....

The World of Oz (Which was a very funny place, where every one wore a funny funny face).

Dodo, The Kid From Outer Space.

And the Beatles cartoon!

I was trying to remember the show where the lady host at one point took out a mirror and would say the names of kids she "sees".
had to look it up.
Romper Room. I always hoped she'd say my name and she never did.

Now I have the Polka Dot door theme song stuck in my head. I had forgotten about that. I guess I'll be humming that most of the day.

I grew up in the 90s so Mr. Dressup, Fred Penner's Place, Theodore Tugboat, Caillou, Babar, and Inspector Gadget were some of the shows I loved. Always interesting to see some of the ones listed here that I never got to experience. Samurai Pizzacats stopped airing very shortly after I had begun watching tv shows as a kid so I missed out on that, though I still remember the jingle to this day.

All the others are amazing, but f--k that whiny bald entitled little bastard. Caillou inspired a sub-generation of kids who realized if you cry and whine enough your parents will give into you.

Samurai Pizza Cats was the business, it's a shame it wasn't on for very long, it only ran for a year.

Samurai Pizza Cats was where it was at!

The jingle was great and the premise was completely bonkers.
