I’m going to sound really condescending here and that’s the intention. For those fine with Treliving getting promoted to POHO, and thinking that he wouldn’t influence GM decisions, is completely silly. It’s clear he, like many competitive people, have an ego. Why take the chance that he wouldn’t pull the strings behind the scenes or influence culturally the GM’s decisions? Is that really what anyone wants because the reality is that’s the way business works. Get him out and bring in a new President and GM and start with a rebuild. Consider this a three year project and go. Treliving doesn’t deserve anything from the mediocre results these last few years. Move on cleanly.

I think you are confused with Paul Fenton.
Makes sense though as Fenton and Futa were long considered the next guys to get GM roles when they left Nashville and LA respectively. Fenton made some bad moves in Minny but it was the work culture that I think got him canned.
Granlund for Fiala turned into a win.
Futa was a hot GM prospect but then parted ways with LA and has not done much since other than a part time media gig

Not sure why Futa is so exciting for some around here. He kind of has a Treliving/Benning, off the board, up and coming superstar GM that has no idea what they're doing type of vibe to him.

It's funny how some fans get pretty comfortable with potential decisions that we make fun of the Oilers for. Promoting failure is dumb, whether we do it or another team does it.

Yeah if Treliving isn't the man for the job, as he has proven himself not to be, then he should be fired. Promoting him, to oversee the new guy, who is presumably there to do a better job, is laughably terrible.

Wonder how tempted Treliving would be, if promoted, to just tell the new GM he's on a plane when they try to make a trade.

I don't understand what the dynamic is between the AGM and GM. I was under the impression that Conroy is the guy dispatched to interview players and start base negotiations. Does he really have any say on player transactions or negotiating player transactions with other teams?
Maybe someone familiar with the inner workings of the Flames can comment.

AGM in his spot should deal more with the pro scouts, run that info up the chain should he not?

Francis was fired a month after his “promotion”. He was never actually given any responsibilities, it was just a transitional thing.
So we’re left with Kevin Lowe.
Yeah let’s follow that model.

People need to keep in mind this is the opinion of an unknown blogger based on their speculation. No one credible is stating this could actually happen

Initially it was Rick Dhaliwal (sp?) on a podcast with Don Taylor. Used to be a TSN guy in Vancouver.
Its, insider...ish?

The press conference when Brad became the POHO would have to include a bit where he explains that he knows a bit about winning, just to pay homage to the original implementer of the promoting up after a failed rebuild.

The Treliving promotion I believe is pure speculation. Futa in could mean Treliving is on the way out.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea. I’m saying it’s a way of paying a guy to do something when you’re really moving him aside that I could easily see happening. I think Holmgrgen as president and Hextall as GM was a similar move, especially given Holmgren described the POHO job as one for an old man a few days before he was talked into it.
They insisted at the time Francis wasn’t being shoved aside. Hah.
Tallon was made “special advisor” in Chicago in a sort of similar move, though kit was a more obvious demotion.

Thats fair. I don't know if Dhaliwal speculated about Treliving's role in this.

Reminds me how they also couldn't find the cahones to fire Sigalet. Instead made him the "big picture" guy. Like Michael Scott after Jim's co-manager promotion.
We move guys that fail to succeed over a long gig upstairs to oversee the new guys. I mean, how could that not be a recipe for positive change.
I do think Brad is a consummate professional in how he conducts himself in the position, and negotiated impressively with RFAs, but he built a mediocre and flawed team and put too much faith in players for too long who weren't delivering. Based on that, his ability to evaluate and make necessary adjustments looks to be a weakness we can't afford.

That’s what I’m saying. It’s like how Katz couldn’t bring himself to fire Lowe.
