Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Mike Smith won’t travel with the Flames on the road trip. Gulutzan said that he will get better quality of work/rehabbing/skating in Cgy, than travelling and being on the road. Also, the Flames goalie didn’t skate today because he was sick.

Good morning from the Saddledome. Flames winger Micheal Ferland has ditched the yellow jersey this morning.

Put Ferland back at RW on top line. I don't want Johnny on his off wing anymore.

When Smith returns it will have been too late. Season is lost.

9. Years ago — I can’t remember what team he was playing for at the time — Mike Smith and I had a conversation about injuries. Smith said he tends to be very careful with his body. He will progress and then stop if he feels discomfort or anything that could set him back. When he comes back, he wants it to be permanent. So when the Flames are saying they are unsure of the timeline, it is legitimate. Smith probably isn’t 100-percent sure either.

Too bad Smith gets hurt with less than 2 seconds in the Islanders game... it really has marked the turning point of this season.

Weird how some teams are fine with whomever is in goal and they play their game. This team is not even close to being at that point mentally. With this group of players and coaching staff, they would never make it to that level.

Speaking of this, did anyone see that improbable comeback by the Bruins today?

It certainly has that feel. Hard not to rush back considering the situation, hopefully it doesnt backfire even worse.

Agreed. I posted this a few minutes ago in the PGT, it fits here too:

If he felt good enough to fly out on his own, dress and take shots that tells me he is very close.

There are 2 games left on this trip. Why bother going all the way out there if you didn't plan on playing?

Moving pretty good.

What a boost to the confidence for this team. Just at the right time.

Smith was probably on the phone booking a flight and then packing his suitcase the second he saw that 170' dump in get through Gillies and almost into the net.

He has been "day to day" for more than 3 weeks. Nothing about this is a rush.

Won't play tomorrow according to Shannon:

John Shannon @JSportsnet
Mike Smith has rejoined the Flames on this important road trip. Will not play tomorrow in Buffalo. But don’t rule out Friday in Ottawa.
