I was a little surprised I needed to split Ferland's season into 2 parts... but on the other hand it makes sense. I actually split it into before and after he joined the first line as well.
I still think Ferland is a real hidden gem amongst the NHL. He has a skillset that I think is extremely unique across the whole league, not just the Flames. Hope he forces his way onto the #1 line again at camp and they can't take him off it.
My favorite Flame. I love how he plays, and I too think the best is yet to come from him. I saw him at Bass Pro Shops about a month ago and he's one tough looking guy. Glad he's on our team.

For a guy that gets hate for not hitting enough, he makes a lot of really heavy hits.
I don't think he should be a volume hitter like martin/clutterbuck anyways, he puts so much power in his hits that he just needs one to send a message. Let guys like Hathaway wear down the opposition with hits while Ferland focuses on scoring.
And as Hrudey kept saying, they're all clean. He hits with power and isn't dirty. And he has some offensive game too.
He had 6 fighting majors but only 5 minor penalties all season. Two of those were offsetting roughing penalties, so he only put the Flames shorthanded 3 times all season.
That's pretty remarkable for the type of game he plays.

That video got me excited. I had forgotten, but that Ferland - Bennett - Brouwer line had some good looks early in the season. I think he will score +25 points anywhere in the lineup, but if he is on the first or second line I expect 40.

Agree 100% with all of this.

Ferland is such an exciting player. With the Flames roster as it is now, I expect the team to rotate players on Monahan and Gaudreau's wing much like last season.
Give him ice time and proper line mates and he's going to pop 30 goals ....hit like a truck and put guys out of games.
Ferland just doesn't get the respect he deserves.
Great passer, hitter and great release. He knows where to be and when throw the hit when it's needs to be done. He's learned allot by not overcommiting to hits.
Dammit I love this guy. Keep him on the top line please or with 2 skilled guys who play with fire like Vertsteeg and Bennett......or the other Michaels.
Ferland is a beast. I hope he continues his upwards trajectory, who knows what his ceiling really is with those soft hands in tight and fast release. I thought he looked plagued by a lower body injury for a lot of the second half because when he's healthy he is very fast on his skates. I hope he has a monster year in 17/18!
