That's it?? That's ridiculous.
Here's your punishment Max.......you get to relax before the season starts. What a joke.

December 28th is the first time these teams play again for those who are curious.

Misses the rest of the meaningless pre-season. Florida will be looking for him in December.

This kid's career is in a downward spiral imo.. and no, this isn't sour grapes. It's his personality that is the issue.
I actually think this is a good punishment, he's on a new team. Preseason or not, its really where a player can find their place and get comfortable in a new location. He'll struggle returning

This isn’t even a punishment, it’s just a time out from the “pre-test”

I would have expected a couple of regular season games or at least some monetary fine as well. The punishment is an absolute joke.

Forfeiting zero dollars and not missing any regular season games isn't punishment for suckering a guy with concussion issues, imo. It's a joke.
What's the lesson he learned here? If he's going to do something suspension-worthy make sure you do it during the pre-season so you don't really receive any punishment?

Unreal, and this is coming from a league currently defending itself against allegations of minimizing or ignoring concussion implications.
I don’t get it

Dumb punishment. If you are going to suspend him he has to get some regular season games.
Probably going to be a unpopular opinion but I don't think it was really a sucker punch. To me a sucker punch is when you hit someone that isn't expecting it. Ekblad was dumb to just stand there with his hands at his sides grinning. I'm not saying he had to drop the gloves, but Jesus man protect yourself. Ekblad slashes and cross checks a lot he gets under his opponents skin. If he's going to play like that he has to be smarter in these situations.

I think he was kind of looking at him thinking " What are you doing it's exhibition? I'm not going to fight you little man". Domi wanted him to engage him and he didn't so he sucker punched him. It's just not something we need in this league anymore.

can we get getbak a bat signal?
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest they do not get paid which allows college age players to play, but I'm probably going to be proven wrong here in about 10 minutes.

This just encourages vigilante behavior next time these two teams meet.
Personally....if i was ekblad, I would feel that I have to go after him with a dirty play next game. Otherwise I would feel like a target is on my back. There are no goons anymore. Brouwer isn’t going to stand up for him. And I’m not going to risk a punch to the head in a fair fight.
So it’s slew foot, behind the play elbow, boarding, dirty high stick to the teeth, etc as options. Big deal if Ekblad gets suspended a few games for it. Cost of sending a message to others. I don’t like staged fights and goons. But this is an odd situation where player safety could have helped further dampen the need for fighters by issuing a proper suspension.
So ridiculous.
