Thumbs down Russian jet crashes on highway, kills at least 44

Yikes, what a scary incident this is. A Tupolev-134 crashed (crash landed? Not sure) onto a highway near Petrozavodsk, killing a current count of 44 people.

This is an image of a Tupolev-134 for reference.

Correct me if I am wrong, aren't these Tu-134's falling out of the sky at an inordinate rate?

TU-134's are ancient... probably a combination of stress induced age issue and poor maintenance caused the accident? But apparently on par accident rate with the 727 from what I hear.

Yikes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev..._and_incidents

Looks like most crashes are pilot error. 4 terrorism/conflict, 11/22 pilot error, the rest technical.

If you think Tu-134's record is bad, don't look at the Tu-154's record. Yikes indeed.

I have always wanted to fly on one of these... errrr maybe not?
