No clue but that's my thinking. Only an idiot would admit to a crime while in the process of becoming a police officer.

What would they even be looking for.

Their reasoning is likely that 911 operators have the same access to the same databases that police and fire do, so...same testing

Can you get report of what information they actually have on us? i.e. our police report?

Cop showed up at my door a while back because I didn't phone my dad back within an hour, wasn't sure they even knew where I lived, dad wouldn't have known the address. Just curious what information they actually have. That time I tried to walk home after the first time I got drunk and couldn't figure out where I was and they drove me home. Is that in there? Parking tickets? Tax records? I have no idea what they can pull when ripping the license plate number.

If the police can see it, a 911 operator can.

I can't, obviously, get into all the information sources we have, but the vehicle registration one, I can, since we all do that, to have a vehicle. Police can access the vehicle registration system and the info it has.

That makes sense, just curious what the police can see.

You can make a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act request and they will provide what they have (with certain limitations):

It’s beyond stupid. I’ve worked in fire and life safety for 10+ years. Calgary is unique in Canada with how absolutely ridiculous it is to get in. Literally, nobody is similar in Canada. Want an easier time? Move anywhere else. Had several CFD members bitch to me about how they only get stay at home goodie two shoes who have no life experience.

When I was going through it, you weren’t even allowed to apply if you’ve tried marijuana in the last 3 years. You’re reading that right. I hadn’t in 2 years, with limited use 3 years prior - bye bye. Punished for being honest.

I recall a calgary scandal when a fire fighter owned an escort agency (back before the internet) it was quite embarrassing to the department -- promises were made to enhance the background check/ screening of candidates.

there were articles in the Calgary herald about it

Was that what it was? Because whoever the lead was at the orientation I went to (a very seasoned vet) said it was because they hired a pedophile. Seems to have taken on a life of its own…

That's cool AF, chummer.

I wanted to be a fireman so bad when I was in high school. At the time, though, my eye glasses prescription eliminated me from even applying. They had a recruiter come to Churchill to talk to us and he looked like he felt really bad for me when he told me it wasn't going to happen.

Polygraphs are really just a showcase of interview skills and making people feel uncomfortable/feeling obligated to speak then any sort of indicators of being hooked up to a machine.

I imagine the city will drop theirs soon simply to keep competitive with other agencies who have dropped it.

At least I have a hairy back, so I wouldn't say I'm a total write off.

The bad vision thing also seems like its huge overkill. What are in 1268 AD and we just have no idea how to correct vision problems?

What if they are driving a firetruck at top speed and his contact lenses shoot out of his eyes and he kills a small family?

It’s just applicant reduction. They have endless candidates.

You also can’t be colour blind…. I’m sure there are roles where you’d never need to be the one using a thermal imaging camera… but CFD says #### off.

You know it's bad when it's just common knowledge that nobody makes it in their first time applying. Usually not their second either

So dumb
Funny reading this must be popular to go to rocky, had a friend volunteering there for years trying to get on in calgary. Recently had a patient that said he had been working out there for a long time but was in private fire investigation now.

Haha, yeah have a lot of friends over there

Rocky is really good too, so I certainly didn't mean to make it sound like a consolation prize or second choice or anything. Just a joke that CFD misses out on some really good candidates because their hiring processes are so ridiculous
