Default New Shaw Phone Service

While looking up info in the 911-VoIP thread, I discovered that Shaw has a new home phone service out called Digital Phone Basic.

Looks like it has all the meat of the Digital Phone Lite; only missing things like:

- Extended Local Calling (BC only it seems- doesn't apply to us in Calgary)
- 3 way calling
- Call Return
- Call Blocking
- Free 411 service

So if you are like me and just want a basic phone with call display and don't use a lot of long distance, this is the one for you.

Bundled with High Speed internet that brings my monthly Shaw bill to $53 per month. Or another way of looking at it; with the discount I get on Internet, my net cost for Shaw phone is $12 per month.

Details here: http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...e/ComparePlans

I just called and switched over.

another thing to keep in mind for us lite users is that shaw soho lite has a bunch of extra features including voice mail for $5 more than regular phone lite - im switching over to that next week...

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Thanks for the heads up Ken, I just switched.

The only thing I used was call display and it's still included. They're going to put Rogers and Telus out of business.

Well, this is weird. Whenever I try to look at the details of the plans, it says "Note: We're sorry. There are no Shaw services available in your area.". Ummmm, I use Shaw internet and Shaw phone from south Calgary right now.

Anyone mind giving me a summary of the difference between lite and basic? Price and long distance rates specifically please.

Yeah....I am too lazy to call.

I'm getting the same message right now too. South Calgary as well.

There was 2 types of call blocking; active and passive or something. Other than that I think my exclusions above are about it. You still get the same LD rate, same local calling, call display, and Voicemail to email, but that had a * beside it. Probably means you need to subscribe to VM to get it.

Edit- click on Support, enter your postal code, and you will be good to go.

Thanks Ken.

This seems like a fairly no brainer switch for my current situation.
