Default Telus iPhone reception at Flames and Stamps Games

Does anyone else have terrible phone reception at these events with Telus?

I have full bars and 3G but I can barely get a text out, can't make a call and my email/internet is incredibly slow.

The Saddledome allows it to trickle in, at the Stamps games, it's decent in some spots and just dead in others.

Just taking a quick survey, any response would be greatly appreciated.

Always takes me multiple tries to get text messages out at the dome.

I have an HTC Desire with Telus and basically get no service whatsoever at either stadium.

Same with me on my Bell iPhone; same network.

To get texts to go through I have to dial my work number (make a call I know won't bother anybody.) It takes a minute for the call to connect; but at that point I have made a network connection and if I'm quick enough I can also force a text to push through.

In most of the saddledome I get no reception (Telus - iPhone), but some sections I get reception and it is pretty fast.

On Rogers I get decent reception in the 300's during the game (less-so at intermission). In the 100's it's almost totally impossible though.

Not sure why you would expect great reception there. Lilely 90% of people there have a cell and chances are at least 50% of those are on the Telus/Bell network. Its just network saturation and the Dome isnt in a location that would warrant multiple service towers.

Yeah, I'm with Mykalberta on this one.
Not only do you have a huge number of people in one spot, but you're also in the middle of a giant concrete and steel dome. Why would you think reception would be great?

Particularly because my other phone on Bell works fine to send/receive text messages and phone calls.

Only my iPhone has the issue.

Is your other phone using the 3G network though?

Ahh, the lower bowl. Where people don't go to watch hockey.

My Telus BB works well at the dome, my girlfriend iPhone on Rogers rarely can make a call. I think its a problem on all the carriers with 3G.

With Bell... Good voice reception... Horrible data. I had to wait so long for the HSPA icon to pop up on my phone. Same with the last two games I went to.

There were no issues previously with my CDMA phone; and sitting right beside me at the games is a buddy with a Telus CDMA Blackberry and he isn't having issues either.

And the structure of the building isn't relivant. If I get to the Flames game early it works fine. Same thing when it was 7-2 Vancouver; and at Hitmen games.

The problem is Bell/Telus don't have enough bandwidth. So us having this thread means we have confirmation and can call into our respective carriers and say "I spoke with X number of other people having the same issue."

I have no problems with making calls and texting on my iPhone on Rogers in the Dome. Data is hit and miss though.

From our seats it's pretty brutal trying to get data. Texting works about 80% of the time.

Low signal is largely due to the environment, concrete and metal everywhere is not good for wireless signals. But the poor data/texting issue is more so the large volume of people all pretty much being in the same cell. It's just congestion. Similar with McMahon.

This was talked about a bunch within this thread:
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...t=95364&page=2

New network with lots of users = call drops and such...hopefully the 3G for Bell and Telus will get built out sooner rather than later.

I sit in the 300's at the dome, receiving/sending texts is no problem, however data is hit or miss (usually better if I switch to Edge). I am on Rogers using a unlocked/debranded Desire.
