Yup, great career.

Unfortunately he under-whelmed for much of his stint in Calgary.

After his collapse on the bench sadly this is not surprising. Frankly it was an inevitability, just like Jiri Fischer and Rich Peverley.

Fantastic career. Always a pillar of stability on the blue line. The durability helped.

He was so good at being boring, on the ice and off, its like we never noticed how good he was, on the ice and off.

Good for him, hell of a career.

He'll never be one of my favourite players because he just played like one of those guys that was saving his best for the right moment but you just never quite saw it.

And thats infuriating.

He was one of those players that had it all but just never quite caught that last gear, which, as a fan, is frustrating.

Godspeed Jay.

Retirement was inevitable. Dude almost dies on the ice. That was a messed up game to watch.

Congrats to Bouwmeester though, hell of a career.

Did he have any term left on his contract? If so, pretty honorable to retire as opposed to be on LTIR. I will admit that I was not a huge fan of him in Calgary, but that was due more to my expectations than his actual play. Eventually he found an ideal fit in St.Louis and played extremely well there....after he was sold for nickles on the dollar. All the best to him.

Always had a soft spot for the guy, despite his failure to live up to the hype when he came to Calgary.

I'm glad former whipping boys are being embraced by CP. First Stajan, now Jbo. Could Butler be next? who else? McElhinney? Grossman? Zyuzin?

Good luck to Jay in his off-ice life. If this avatar wasn't outdated before, it's ancient now.

You really can't ask for more than that in an NHL Career.

I am surprised at the only x2 NHL All-Star number. Would of thought it higher

No, his contract was up.

He had a great career, and seemed like a great guy. Enjoy retirement

I’ve never seen someone look less excited to be lifting the Stanley Cup.

Happy trails, Jay.

A very successful career. All the very best Jay in your recovery and retirement. It was a joy to have him on the flames as well as hoist the cup for the blues.

What a great career. Triple gold club, two world cup golds, 1200+ games including a ridiculous iron man streak, 400+ points. Can't ask for any better than that really. Hope he continues to do well after the horrible situation last year.
