Backlund replacement maybe

Kind of a mediocre pick from my point of view.

Don't see him being a good offensive player at the NHL level.

I suppose the Flames need centers.

Just with a trio of high skill scoring Right Wingers available, for which the Flames have none, it seems odd. I feel all of Bourque, Gunler and especially Perreault would have been significantly better choices.

In case people were watching SNET and not NBC, as soon as he was picked they played a graphic and romantic song because Zary is another one of Craig Button's "mancrushes".

Weird, but ok.

Button says: "He's a swiss army knife and is really able to play in so many different situations in the game. He can play centre ice, he can play the wing, he can be offensive, he can be defensive, he can be a catalyst for forechecking, and coaches love the versatility of players like that. 3 years I've watched him play, and every single time I went to watch him the next time he was better than the previous time. His game kept expanding, his game kept getting better and better. He reminds me a lot of Calgary Flames player Elias Lindholm, who has those same types of qualities; plays on the wing or in the center of the ice, plays on the PP and shorthanded. Really a terrific young player."

When the time comes. I'd be surprised if he didn't spend a year in the AHL before he becomes and every game centre.

Guy I was hoping for, and managed to get 2 3rds and still get him. Awesome.

This will be a great pick to watch for years compared to picks 19-23, plus whoever we pick with those 2 3rds (or trade them for).

As poor as Matthew Tkachuk's and Rasmus Andersson's in their draft years.

It's his weakness, but it's not like it's irreversibly bad. It won't hold him back.

I was watching the draft on my phone around the time that the 19th pick was up and there was a shot of the Flames war room with a jersey in the background. The Jersey had 4 letters and looked to me like it said Zary. Did anyone have a larger screen and can tell me what was written on that jersey?

Well that's not good. Tkachuk is good but he has not improved his skating dramatically over the past few years.
