Default PC to Apple Cinema display possible?

Apparently I am still my ex wife's tech support. She bought herself one of those big Cinema series Apple monitors that appears to only have the little ports (mini display?) coming out of it. I am pretty clueless around Apple stuff. But anyway, she wants to connect her work pc to it, and her only outputs on that are dvi and vga on the docking station and hdmi on the laptop. I have google'd around and it appears that there is not a solution for this? Can anyone confirm this, or offer a solution?

Kind of hard to believe that Apple would make $1000 monitor in 2013 that only worked for Macs.

You can buy adapters depending on your need for computer input. They are around 20 bucks from apple but I see you live in the states so they can be had on monoprice for cheap

I haven't been able to find an adapter from a DVI port on the pc to the mini display port from the monitor.

edit: I am still 90% asleep here, so I am thinking this is what you need, but in case it isn't - something on this page should work (or a combination of items)

Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter

That is the wrong direction though. That goes from mac mini display port to dvi monitor. I need to go from dvi or hdmi from the pc to display port on the monitor.

I think you might be confused (or I am, and need to invest heavily in some caffeine today).

You plug adapter into a DVI cable, creating a DVI to Mini-Display Port cable. Connect that cable into your computer and your TV.

edit: This apparently wont work, correction below

Anything I've read, those adapters are directional and will not work.
They'll connect a minidsiplay source to a monitor, but not a dvi source to a minidisplay monitor.

Ok, then use this - Not sure how I missed it in my original search.

Thanks for your help everyone, but that description is the same too:

"Make direct Mini DisplayPort to DVI connections without the hassle of using an adapter. Monoprice is proud to be among the first to offer a direct connect solution for connecting your Mac to your DVI equiped HDTV or monitor. This is a low profile and highly flexible 32AWG cable. "

I don't think her monitor even has mini display port port on it, either. If you look at the picture of the back
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...27-flat-panel?

It just has an all in one cable coming out of it with a mini display port, usb, and a power cable for a mac.

I have no idea then. That's why Macs suck.

Tell your ex to go ask at the Apple Store.

I think she just gets Apple stuff to piss me off anyway! But then blames me when it doesn't work with anything else!

You are looking for a DVI/HDMI to mdp adapter. Companies that used to sell these things, no longer do since they were horribly unreliable and grossly overpriced.

Your ex should either return the monitor or upgrade her work computer so that has a mini displayport.

Thanks, that's about where my research led me too. I just wanted to confirm.

Yeah, buy the cheapest video card with a display port that's capable of running the big monitor.

You could always get an external PCI-E enclosure and put a video card in it. Not going to be cheap though.

The cheapest option:

or the more elegant solution (but costs about 4x as much):

Thanks, but these last couple solutions are definitely out of scope for my tech support duties for an ex wife!

You must really love her if you do tech support for your ex wife. Tell her to figure it out herself!

This is erroneous use of green text. This is why Macs suck!
