TSN projects that Zary will be moved to centre now that Dach is out:

Quinn - Byfield - Cozens
Perfetti - McMichael - Krebs
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Suzuki - Zary - Tomasino

I’m excited to see Zary at centre.

And the injury isn’t going to happen anyways. If Dach didn’t play in the WJC he’d be ready for game one of the season. Chicago was ok with that risk as a rebuilding team. Some teams aren’t.
This was a career building opportunity that Dach could be a key player in an important tournament with the very best players of his age group.

This development opportunity greatly favors young important players playing and taking on the risk of participation.

In 2004 Minnesota thought that Burns playing a significant role in the WJC was a better development opportunity than playing NHL games.

In 2020 it would be pretty much obvious, even to the casual observer, that training for month with Canada's U20 team and playing in the tournament would be better preparation for the NHL season than the 10 day training camp with no exhibition games.

Why so many NFL injuries this season?

Quote:
What we’ve seen through the course of this season is a sharp increase in soft-tissue injuries — and specific ones, such as ruptured Achilles tendons, appear to be registering at fairly alarming rates. There appears to be a direct correlation between the lack of a typical offseason program and the increased soft-tissue injury rate.

He's more at risk to get hurt without playing some games given that long a gap.

Every team has to make decisions on their players for tournaments like this based on the player's importance, the role on the NHL team in the upcoming season, and the players history.

Lafreniere has played twice, won a goal and an MVP. He's done.

Dach missed out, and the Hawks were giving him a chance.

No need to second guess everyone in these matters.

I totally agree that it was fantastic that Valimaki got to get some training and games in. If he would be eligible to play with Team Finland I would assume and hope that both the player than the Flames would have zero reservation for him playing in this tournament. Perfect timing to get him in peak position to start the season on Jan 13.

My point was that it was convoluted logic to keep Dach out of a development opportunity to protect him from injury risk while supporting Valimaki playing and taking some contact on his wonky knee in real games.

That is a ridiculous idea. Should everyone would be wearing non-contact jerseys at practices?

The original point that you were responding to was in relation to Lafreniere, which is a completely different situation.
He's accomplished everything he can at the WJC
It is unlikely to help his development
The Rangers view him as an impactful players for them this season.

So as with everything, each situation merits different decisions. Agreeing AF out of the WJCs was the right call for the Rangers, doesn't mean that one is saying that everyone should be kept out

You'll just have to believe in the team brain thrust.

I saw a picture supposedly taken of Dachs wrist. If that really was his wrist, then its my professional medical opinion that its busted as all hell. Looks exactly like when I broke mine

Yeah it’s always a bad sign when a player holds up there hand to “show” an injury to the bench from 15 feet away.

I saw that picture too -- one of the worst breaks I've seen. Almost made me throw up.

Whoa holy crap! Google it if you dare, yikes. Kind of what I figured but way worse, I thought his thumb took it all. To me this was a good example of why not to let up, looks like his stick drove back through his wrist, instead of delivering a firm cross check type play. Have to keep the muscles in your body engaged for contact.

Adam Kimelman @NHLAdamK
Canada coach Andre Tourigny said Devon Levi will start in goal tomorrow. And this is how the lines will look in the absence of Kirby Dach:

Holloway-Newhook-Cozens
Perfetti-McMichael-Krebs
Pelletier-Byfield-Mercer
Zary-Suzuki-Tomasino
Jack Quinn the 13th forward

When Dach was skating to the bench and held his arm up, I wasn’t sure if what I was seeing was his elbow pad under his jersey creating the image of his arm being all zig-zaggy. But if that pic is really his arm, I would say it wasn’t his elbow pad.

Yeah, those are 4 pretty even lines IMO

Holloway and Newhook is not a 1st line

Cozens on one line, McMichael on another, Byfield on another...

Quinn goes from line 1 to 13th forward, that’s weird.

What did Quinn do that was so bad his own coach from the 67's makes him the 13th forward?
