Over 8M. They have 7.4M with a 22 person roster, including Gillies. Send down Gillies and one other player, sign those three to get back to 23. But point still stands.

There was times this season where he also worked great with the line, Chucky was going through a slump though so it was not kept together.

Dealing Frolik and demoting both Kylington and Gillies gives the Flames a little over $13.2 million for the three RFAs without having to sacrifice any of the future with a messy buyout. Keeps the team's defensive depth intact, as well. After signing those three players, the team would have:
13 forwards (Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Tkachuk, Bennett, Lucic, Mangiapane, Jankowski, Ryan, Lindholm, Czarnik, Quine, Dube)
7 defensemen (Giordano, Brodie, Hanifin, Hamonic, Valimaki, Andersson, Stone)
2 goalies (Rittich, Talbot)
This, of course, assumes that Frolik can be dealt without taking any salary in return.

They could buyout Stone, sign Rittich to 2M, Mangiapane to 1M and still have 7.4M to sign Tkachuk under the Giordano-6.75M limit. Of course that would likely mean a 3-year bridge contract which I'm not sure Tkachuk would be willing to do.

I've got a feeling he can learn a thing or two from Lucic.
Glad to see him signed.

Yeah, Lucic should introduce him to his agent!

Call it the 3B line instead, with Tkachuk being a real Bastard out there.

I still really want to see tkachuk-lindholm-bennett at some point but this one would be cool too

I just read that with this new contract it is now illegal to call him Benzo on CP.

Good news, also like that it's 2 years.
I am getting impatient and want to know if Brodie, Frolik and stone are going to be on the roster come fall.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Williams
Lucic - Jankowski - Bennett
Mangiapane - Ryan - Dube
Czarnik
Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington
Rittich
Talbot
Pretty slick lineup IMO

Seems most likely scenario but certainly Treliving wanted to upgrade forward group not just shed salary there.
Maybe we see 2 deadline deals this year. Trade a D for picks, and picks for a F?

William's will be 38 come opening night, no thanks. Especially not for $3-4 million as OP suggest.

I really want to see him cross that 40 point plateau cause I like the guy and it would be a feel good story that helps the flames and proves that patience pays off, after all that controversy for so long.
The day that the questions about what is Sam Bennett and should we trade Sam Bennett are put to rest will be a good day.

Williams still has game in him if he signs a 1 year deal for 3 to 4 million Id be all over that add. He has history with Peters and has scored at least 40 to 50 + points in 8 of his last 9 seasons including 23/30 53 point season this last season captaining the Canes to a conference final. I hope we get him honestly.

He made $4.5M last year as a 37 year old. He scored 53 points and had a very positive impact on Carolina’s ability to possess the puck. And he’s a RH RW so he could help on the PP.

Williams would be a fine stopgap second line option until we find one through trade that fits the bigger plan.
Flames were ousted after showing lack of toughness and playoff experience. Adding Lucic and Williams to the young group helps you a lot in both aspects.
