5th round pick for a 23 year old D? Whoever they draft with that would be years out of anything. This kid is still learning the pro game and has moved around a bit already for his age. He'll stay on the roster (obviously) the rest of the year, learn from those around him and likely start next season in the AHL and we'll see where it goes. I don't see it as a bad trade. Just a roll of the dice accelerating what that 5th may have been.

I see some good raw skills, and he is 23.

Had to go back 10 5th round picks to find one that has played a single NHL game (and in the 10 before that, only Greg Moore - 10 whopping NHL games - ever hit the ice).

Okhotiuk - a 2nd rounder - has already played 64 NHL games. If he were a 5th rounder for us, would easily be the 2nd best 5th rounder we have selected in the last 20 years.
