Wouldn't it be nice if this guy turned into a superstar

Got it, thought so. In that case, what are players usually paid in the AHL on an ELC? Seems moot saying 950k but they don’t actually make that amount, and to my knowledge, that’s not his cap hit for the big club if he doesn’t play
Capfriendly has his AHL salary as $82.5k per year, as well as the additional signing bonus of $95k each year, which he will get paid as a lump sum at the beginning of each season, regardless of where he plays. There doesn't seem to be any performance bonuses, so $177.5k is the minimum amount Brzustewicz will get paid in the AHL.
Typically the AHL salary is between 80-100k. AHL vets get as much as 250, or 400k. The signing and performance bonuses are different from one player to another.
The highest base for a non-first rounder doesn’t mean much. The actual dollar difference is practically negligible. If you like the player and believe in him, don’t dick around. Building goodwill early is a great investment.

Exactly.
Don't dick around trying to low ball early like Treliving did with a couple of key guys. If you like him a lot, show him that.

It actually just shows what can happen when you draft 18 year olds & place labels on them based on a single moment in time, which is what the draft is.
Good teams don’t succumb to the sunk cost fallacy, or Kevin Lowe’s brainless resentment towards Mike Comrie’s 1st contract.
After the pick is made it’s just a number people attach arbitrary or irrelevant value to.
The players's rights, their play, and ultimately a signed contract matter the most.
Obviously you don’t want to miss on a 1st round pick, but once it’s made, it’s made.
Let their play, not their draft number determine value.

I'd like to see Morin and Lipinski under contract as well.
Morin is only just turning 19 this year, so he is still CHL eligible. I expect he won't get a contract till next year, or just before Jan 1, 2025 at the earliest.
