I don't think the Flames have a good mix of D that play both offence and defence, they just have offensive D man.

It also depends on that the Flames think about Gillies or any of the other goalie prospects that the Flames have, how long before thy ready for the NHL.

Defensemen that 'play defense' are usually characterized by their inability to move the puck or drive play, and therefore always wind up 'playing defense' in their own zone. No one wants shot blockers.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Flames' current top-4. Giordano, Hamilton, Brodie, and Stone is as good a tandem as anyone else's.

It's the bottom pair which needs to be fixed, and fast. Engelland is old and slow and Bartkowski is just horrible. I'd replace one in free agency on a very short-term deal, bring up Rasmus Andersson to be the 6, and then bring in Grubauer/Darling.

How about Bernier as a 1B?

God, no. He'd be my last preference, even behind Elliott.

I'd rather no more 1B's

There is an elite starter available this off-season, and he won't cost assets to acquire.

We have a good young team with a bright future ahead of it, we just need an elite goalie to get us over the hump into true contender status.

That's who the Flames should target, and I suspect they will.

I am apprehensive of giving Bishop a long term commitment at the price he probably will garner. He is definitely a starter calibre goalie, but looking around the NHL, not very many goalies last long in that facet these days.

This would be ok due to Fleury's contract status.

The time for nickel and dime'ing to find a goalie should be over. They either have to trade for a good goaltender with a big contract with a few years left or go all out and get someone like Bishop. I'd prefer they went the trade route given Gillies and Parsons, but honestly I'm so sick of this #### that I wouldn't care in the least if they offered Bishop some ridiculous contract with term.

Catapult Elliott into the sun, and if Treliving allows for this ridiculous 1A/1B BS to continue for a third season, I hope he gets catapulted into the sun soon after Elliott.

Yes. One thing is certain, no more 1B nonsense. No more "Well if one guy falters we'll have someone that can take up the slack" No. Go all in, go after a guy you know won't falter in the first place.
And get rid of Sigalet

There is no way Fleury waives his no trade. If he is bought out he gets 2/3rds of his deal and then can sign with whoever wanted him via trade for more than a 2yr 2 million dollar deal.

Fleury is going to be a UFA this summer. His agent would be stupid to let him waive.

So I guess Elliott has played himself off the team. Feel bad for the guy.

I said this a few pages back.

I think he's one of the best in the league and if the deal was right, he'd be an excellent option.

Guess it depends on what New Jersey would ask for... but I think you're correct that they're trending down and the only thing Schneider is going to do is worsen their draft position by stealing them a few extra games.

If the price was do-able, he'd be my number one choice.

I don't really. I am kind of callous that way.

Came here to say this. The guy is Elite. Best player on that team. Price is likely high but I would certainly be asking if I'm Treliving.
