What a time to be a GM when Mad Mike was in New York.

Imagine trading garbage for Luongo, Bertuzzi, McCabe, Chara, Jokinen or Berard. That right there is 2 top line forwards, 3 top line Dmen and an all star goalie.

Here's a fun exercise; who would we trade in '99 to get those guys?

Berard for Giguere
McCabe/Bertuzzi for Jeff Shantz
Chara Muckault and a 1st (Spezza) for ???? (This one is hard to compare. Yashin was UNBELIEVABLY bad, so maybe our top pick from one of the years prior....Tkaczuk and Fata maybe?)
Jokinen and Luongo for Savard and a 30pt LW (Nazarov)?

I know we like to make fun of edmonton and CHiarelli, but NO ONE comes close to Milbury for just straight up horrific trades. Some of these are SO bad I swear he was getting paid by the other team to complete them.

Careful what you wish for, in that alternate universe San Jose might have traded Kipper to the greaseballs or the nuckleheads.

Interesting thought, but easy to answer based on 2004 - I don't think Luongo would've been able to keep the puck out against all the teams the Flames went through to get to the Finals. I also don't think Luongo would've been a Vezina winner like what Kipper did in 2006/2007. Luongo was a good goalie and probably still is, but Kipper was amazing for the Flames. Kipper - forever a Flames!

I'm just gonna assume in this alternate reality, the Flames have Luongo and Marc Edouard Vlasic

I don't think we draft Vlasic at #35 after drafting Matt Pelech at #25.

Actually instead of drafting Trevor Kidd, we would've draft Martin Brodeur, and he will may wearing a Flames jersey on the Enterprise Car Rental commercial....

I don't think the Flames played the style the Devils did that allowed him to succeed.

That goes to show that drafting based on need is stupid, since Pelech is a scrub and Vlasic is a top pairing defenseman.

A bit off topic but aren't the Canucks still paying for part of Luongo's salary?

So it is a tough choice.
correct me if I am wrong, but did each not play one game 7 in a SCF?

seems pretty cruel to make comments on their careers based on one game.

Doesn't matter. People who have body issues and/or have been fat shamed are indirectly affected.

I dont know what to say...I dont mean to fat-shame anyone.

Craig Button being sorry he didnt trade him for Luongo? He should be sorry he didnt trade him for a steak dinner and an assortment of gently used pucks.

And, Buff, I apologize, I mean no disrespect, it wasnt even really about his weight, he was just genuinely not very good.

I just looked it up and Derek Morris played over 1100 NHL games. Wow.

For all the grief he sometimes gets, he carved out a pretty good career.

He didn't mention anything about the Savard trade did he? because, if he's going down that road, there are much bigger decisions he should be reflecting on.

One time I made a comment on Facebook about how one of the benefits of being fat is that skinny people will never know the joy of eating an entire bag of potato chips in one sitting. I got accused of fat shaming, despite the fact that a: I am fat and b: I literally had just eaten an entire bag of chips in one sitting.

While that may be true, I don't think the Flames played the style that allowed Kidd to succeed either.
