Holy...!
I expected Sweden to win. I mean, a team with that much depth and balance? In some subconscious way, I was scared of them more than Russia because Russia is a fairly weak team after its top six.
But Slovakia?
This might be good for Canada, though. Slovakia may have beaten Russia and just eliminated Sweden, but I like Canada's chances against them.

Well, as long as Team Canada doesn't underestimate these fighters I'm quite fine with this result =)

He said he'd rather have the twins then half the flames roster. He did not say he'd give up Iggy, Bouwmeester, or Kipper. Just stating the Sedin's are damn good, and would take them on a team.
Without regarding for cap and such, his statement is dead accurate.
They are great players.

I realize what it would take to get them, and I never advocated even trying to do it.
I'm just saying that making fun of them is one thing... but acting like they suck is just moronic.

Which is the point I'm trying to make. If we're just going to play in a fantasy world where there is no cap then yeah, fine. But I'd rather have those three than the two creepy Swedish aliens.

Agreed. The matchup is more favorable to Canada IMO. Only defenseman to be worried about is Chara.
And we shut down malkin, Kovalchuk, and Ovechkin.
I think we can do the same to Demitra, Hossa, Gaborik.

The format, IMO, is the reason these games were close.
First game was a combo of a over confident US team and the Swiss having confidence and "nothing to lose" attitude after winning the night before.
Canada game, same thing...Russians weren't ready after that extra day off, in the first period and Canada benefitted from that blowout yesterday.
Fins were in a tight game..Czechs are old and the two games in two nights caught up with them. Great that Kiprusoff had to play one less game.
Swedes were also not sharp and the Slovaks had the confidence from the night before.
Back to Canada...if they were the ones with the day off after stumbling into the QF's and the Russians would've blown out the Germans (I know, Canada beating the US and/or Swiss wouldn't have meant it was Russia playing the Germans yesterday), Canada may have had a bit of a tougher time trying to find their legs and thier skill.

nah, you can't be rusty going from sunday to wednesday.
It's a competitive tournament and games will be close.
Except for Russia who thought they could waltz into GM Place and outgun the Canadians. That's an error in tactics, not rustiness.

If Canada continues to improve as they have each game of this tournament, the only thing between us and a Gold Medal game is Jaroslav Halak.
We are going to own Slovakia all over the ice. If they can solve Halak it'll be a blowout.

Swedish "hockey-expert" is just too fun, he has been bragging about Sweden all tournament, how great they are, how they are gonna grab the gold again, etc.
Now when they lost: "I can't believe we lost to a B-classed team, we can't lose to these weaker countries, we were better in every aspect, they had no chance, some lucky bounces, this is a catastrophy".
God I enjoyed it.

I don't see Halak stoning us. Canada 5 Slovakia 2 and we dominate the game.

any Swedish or Russian media sites out there that people know of with reactions to the games? maybe even in english? i'm quite interested to see how those two nations are taking a defeat like this, compared to Canada in '06
EDIT: well here's a Swedish site in english, http://www.thelocal.se/25196/20100225/. i especially like this comment from a Brit:
Quote:
I work in an office of 6 people; 3 Englishmen, 2 Swedes, and a Finn.
We English don't give a hoot about ice-hockey, but we agree that it would be nice to see the Swedes get to the final.
The 2 Swedes are sitting in stoney silence, as if they've lost their loved ones and all their possessions.
The Finn is laughing so loudly that the rest of us have to wear headphones to block out his noise.
Thank God this is only every 4 years!!!
Anyway, us 3 Englishmen have now decided to "heja på" (unsurprisingly, perhaps) Canada & USA, mainly because at least we'll be able to understand what they say in the post-match interviews!!

Great game and a great win, what else can be said. Slovakia showed a lot of character when they didn't fold after those 2 quick swedish goals. I was very impressed with what I saw tonight, old man Demitra is playing like it is 2003 again. Hopefully Hossa can step up his game, other than that pretty much everyone is pulling their weight.
Well, Canada is next I guess

Uhhh, maybe Sweden lost because they played the Sedins with multiple wingers then. Or were you refering to the lack of finish from themselves?
