Looks like Wideman isn't getting traded this season.

I guess the NHL ruled that was contact with intent to injure.

Not what I saw at all.

Flames/Wideman must have done a poor job defending their case.

Longest suspension since?

Appeal incoming. Reduced to 10 is my guess and the league can still say they did their part.

Still seems like a bunch of BS.

That seems off. 20 games is around 1/4 of the season. Wideman makes 5.25 million? I guess his actual salary this year must be lower or general tanager did their math wrong, I'm not sure.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
20 games for Wideman is steep and will likely be appealed, but a larger number was expected.

Actually there was no limit on what the suspension could have been...

unless you are a repeat offender (which Wideman is not) loss of salary is calculated on game day basis only.

if you were classified as a repeat offender then yes Wideman would lose 1/4 season salary

I'm sure someone will clear it up quickly but I remember talk about suspension money being based on a more complicated formula than just dividing his salary by 4.

EDIT: lol. Cleared up before I hit reply.

I think it is just a statement from the league, don't touch a ref under any or most circumstances. Hard to believe they found intent in that.

20 seems more than excessive. I guess their trying to throw the book at him. I imagine their is an appeal coming.

Needed to be a decent size suspension but 20 games was way too much. That is 1/4 of the guys season.

Should have been a 10 game suspension.

Expect a pretty significant appeal from the NHLPA here.

Edit: Crazy that Dreger thought an even bigger number was expected...that would have been crazy.

My guess was 14/15... 20 seems steep.

Oh well, maybe he'll shake the crap off during his time off and come back to last year's form when he's back.....

Wow.

When looking around for a book to throw at Wideman they chose the New York City White Pages.

Pretty steep, IMO, but on the plus side, I'm going to enjoy seeing some others players have a chance to show what they can do for the next twenty games.
