A couple of Alberta related posts and one Canada related:

1. Canadian North to retire it's last 737-200's and therefore the end of jet service to a number of northern communities., Which does impact those communities significantly as the replacement aircraft don't carry nearly the cargo a 737 does. It's also the end of an era, the -200's with their gravel kits were mainstays in northern aviation for many years. And there is no direct replacement for them.

2. Air Canada/Alberta related. It's not all bad news for Alberta. Yes Regina and Saskatoon lose their connection to Calgary but AC is beefing up service to Alberta in other ways. YMM-Montreal (new) and YEG-YUL going 4x daily and YYC-YYZ going 13x daily. That's doubling capacity out of YEG on that route and 13x daily to YYZ is a lot for YYC (what is WS?)

3. Also in YEG, Porter airlines is starting E195 jet service to of Pearson (YYZ) and Edmonton is on the list. Going to 3x daily.

Boo to YEG getting anything. I want that high speed rail line from Edmonton to Calgary to ultimately decimate that airport to our benefit.

Wow, those ceiling tiles sure tell a story. I'm guessing even if you were wearing a seatbelt at the time there was probably lots of stuff flying in the air that could hit you.

This is why I try to have my seatbelt on whenever I'm not taking a leak

I don’t think I’ve sat around anyone who hasn’t had their seatbelt buckled when the sign is illuminated. Is it that common that people don’t bother?

Anecdotally - I always try to sit on the aisle and I would say one flight out of 20 or so I see someone with their belt undone for take off / landing. Basically projectiles coming for my head in the event of something untoward happening. For mid flight seatbelt signs on, it is pretty much inevitable to see someone up and about to the bathroom or getting something from the overhead.

Personally, mine is done up from gate to gate if I can.

Ever since I flight I was on to Houston hit a pocket like that over east Texas, where my water bottle went from my tray table to bouncing off the overhead vents, I keep the belt on pretty snug all flight.

Big yikes moment on Friday at JFK in New York. American Airlines 772 taxiied across the active runway while a Delta Airlines 737-900 was on its takeoff roll. Controller noticed and got Delta to reject takeoff, the Delta jet stopping about 1000' short of the taxiway intersection the American Airlines jet had crossed on.

You can listen to it online, the controller does swear over the air as he notices what is going on.

Link pls? I expected that the previous link would have had audio—commenters on that article certainly made it seem so—but maybe I'm too oblivious to find it...?

edit: removed vid, Kel's is way better.

It's really bad for the American crew.

Missing a turn is one thing, mistaking a runway crossing clearance is another, but to top it all off, they taxiied to the wrong runway..... You go through so many checks during preparations.... You have your runway and departures programmed in and STILL go to the wrong one.

It's interesting that the American flight did resume and carried on to London. I'd wonder how the flight crew was feeling after all of that?
