Wish we could magically conjure up a young Getzlaf prototype to center the top line and push every one down spot so that the whole team just looks and slots the way it should.

Current Getzlaf probably can do that for next season. But his contract is horrible.

They aren’t UFA or RFA right now. Would they get more than their current deal if they were UFA? Sure and so would most of the league. That really has nothing to do with anything.
Are they on good contracts? Yes. Does that mean they are untouchable or untradeable? Certainly not.
You can trade a player on a good contract (like Hamilton) get a player back like Lindholm and also sign them to a good contract. Just because Gaudreau and Monahan are on good contracts does not mean you can’t trade one of them and win the trade and get a good contract back.

Having said that if teams are low balling Brodie offers and willing to pay a high price for Hamonic I think Treliving would consider it.
This team needs more guys like Hamonic so if he goes they need more toughness on the blueline

That whole list is weird. Things like Connor Brown at 2.1 being the problem in Toronto, Lucic being a target for anybody, Callahan?
This is a 'wish we could trade, instead of this other guy' board.

Which brings up the obvious question I suppose. Why isn't it Brodie on that list? Its like Seravalli got his Flames D mixed up.

How close is a Brodie+Jankowski for Kadri+Brown?
I think that deal helps the Flames quite a bit and while not perfect for the Leafs they get a Dman that prefers the right side and a replacement center for Kadri.

And, if they think that moving 2 million solves their Marner, Taveras, Matthews cap problem, they might be willing to do a Kadri-Kapenen for Brodie-Jankowski swap, as Kapenen will make more than Brown.
I'm starting to warm to TSN logic.

No we just need guys who are going to play hard every night, in whatever skill set they possess. No free loaders.

Eklund (i know, i know...) just blogged that flames are e4 (whatever that really means) on Varlamov. Also, states flames may have interest in skinner.

Rare instance where I hope Eklund is right. I'd like to see Varlamov on this team, I think he'd be a good fit. And if Yelesin does in fact make the line up (or Zagidulin gets a call up for a bit if Rittich gets hurt?) it wouldn't hurt to have another Russian in the room.

I would add the Flames 26th pick to switch from Brown to Kapanen. Lindholm stays at RW in this scenario.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Kapanen
Bennett-Kadri-Neal/Mangiapane
Nice looking top 9. Frolik and Stone would absolutely need to be moved out in straight cap dumps

Toronto wouldn’t touch that. That’s terrible value.
