Heard on Barn Burner (thanks to Scorpion) that he's the first Russian foward the team has had since...Oleg frickin' Saprykin. Wild. Already seems like a great fit. Literally have never seen a russian hockey player laugh and smile as much as he does. Infectious!
If they can make the playoffs while selling the UFAs and adding an extra two or three 1sts, two or three prospects plus some later picks, they’ll not hear a word of complaint out of me.

No Russian forwards in the entirety of the cap era until yesterday is organizational malpractice.

There's also a meter for enthusiasm to which this team just got a huge dose of by adding Kuzy and Pelts and I hope these guys don't become silent at any point of the remainder of the year.
Something about that positivity , love, unbridled enthusiasm is incredibly contagious and can repair any doubt in any environment ....it just does.
This team moving forward just took a huge HUGE step in the right direction as I see it.
Injuries be damned IF they happen but I like this roster now. More balance.
Losing Popsicle but still grinding out a win is awesome. Man that call still burns my underside but even seeing Weegs show some force towards guys bumping his goalie makes me see the team I wanna see.
Pushback, fight and get that swagger back . Just be dangerous Flames .....disciplined but dangerous .
I'd love to hear announcers say you better NOT give the flames a.powerplay or any hope , momentum back or they'll come back and stomp ya hard.
Hmm..on EVERLAST's sig: When HC Ryan Huska was asked about the black cloud seemingly being gone from the team this season, he said "Yeah I'm not sure where the cloud went. I think he went to go take a ####."
Maybe that was the first one...and Lindy was the last one?
Absolutely cannot believe the excitement, passion and GAF that was on display last night. Hubey looked unstoppable and determined - and so many players had excellent games to match that. Hope it continues!!
Love the personality and positivity from Kuzy. That is the type of guy who can lift a team's morale in a big way. Lots of people were looking at him as a cap dump or just another asset to be flipped at the TDL, but I actually think he could be part of the solution long term.

Maybe it was a bit of hesitation from the Andrei Taratukhin experiment, or the burn from Ruslan Zaynullin, they drafted a few, but nothing came of them.

For a few years there was a KHL flight risk. And also Russian players seem to love NYC and Florida as much as Americans.
But it's fair to say Calgary has never mined Russia that much, despite being the first NHL team to have one and also having one of the big three in the early years.

Actually Flames were the 2nd in 88-89 (Sergei Pryakhin).
6 seasons before that in 82-83, Viktor Nechayev played 3 games for the L.A. Kings and scored a goal.

Pryakhin was the first Russian to receive official permission to leave the U.S.S.R. to play hockey. He was basically a test subject to work out the procedure that was used to get other Soviet players released.
Nechayev was a peculiar case, as he married an American, eventually got permission to emigrate to be with his wife, and then was drafted by an NHL team. He hadn't played for over a year when he got his cup of coffee with the Kings, and his career was nearly over.

100%
Somebody having some fun for a change.
Here's to it rubbing off on Huberdeau
He has to be feeling some relief, even though he's going from a sure PO team to an outsider, he was obviously feeling a lot of heat in Vancouver. This might just be one of those great change of scenery trades (like, say, Bennett).
