Whats wrong with: 'When the sign is up, thats the speed limit.'

Cause some dummy would probably complain that it was put up before the start date.

In theory, any roadway that enters Calgary City Limits will have a sign indicating that.

For someone who doesn't pay attention to what the city does, he's pretty bang on. Stupid decision on the city's part and will have zero impact.

What a delight it is to drive behind someone on a 50 road going 40. They went 40 thru the playground zone too. Went 40 thru the 4 way stop as well.
Its not the speed limit, its the drivers.

You get angry at drivers driving rationally? The risk of mowing down pedestrians doesn’t change. The consequence of hitting pedestrians doesn’t change. Many of the collectors have similar k-values and widths as the 40km streets.
40km everywhere with no school or playground zones would have been far better policy, virtually free to implement, decreases sign clutter, simplified driving rules thereby increasing compliance and created a better atmosphere for pedestrians and cyclists.
It would have been so simple to implement.

Was that you?
I was incredulous watching them speed thru the playground zone. Then dumbfounded when they blew through the four way stop.
Oh and this was a divided boulevard road they were on, basically the main roadway in the community.

You latte sippers started this on Elbow Drive. A 40 km collector with a random 30 km zone just because. And the Latte Councilour led the charge. This ones on you.

Going 40 through a four way stop is not driving rationally. They aren’t driving rationally, they are driving without paying enough attention to what’s around them. They are either talking/texting on their phone, too tired to drive, or daydreaming.
I do think having more consistent speed limits is a good thing but drivers who regularly aren’t paying attention to what’s happening on the road aren’t suddenly going to snap into reality.

I just don't get the issue.
Driving 40km/hr has no discernable impact on my life.

I drive about 80 meters on a road that is now 40 on my commute to work. Basically no effect on my life.

Counter point: THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! IT'S THE BIGGEST IMPACT THE CITY HAS EVER HAD ON MY LIFE!

This wasn't a solution to a problem that actually existed and we blew millions on it that could have been used for real improvements.
