I think he still can offer something on a cheap contract.

5 years left at $7.25M, he's 31 and has completely trended downwards.
Even if he could somehow manage a 50 point season playing with Johnny and Monny, it would be an exception and you'd still be stuck with a declining player for 4 more years.
Huge risk, and limited (and likely short lived) reward.

You’ve gotta figure teams are counting on some more of those get out of jail free buyouts after the next lockout happens. Could make absorbing Ryan for a couple of years more palatable.

i'd take Stajan at $950 K if it meant we could get rid of Brouwer.

Maybe he's going to try to play somewhere else?
Maybe he's downsizing to make up for what is sure to be a lower income in his next endeavor?

When you lay it out like that, yes I would hypothetically trade brouwers contract for more Stajan.
Brouwer could've made his tenure here much more enjoyable by signing for a year and a couple million less. He was wanting to move here anyway which played into the Flames hands at the time having interest. But they had to go and pay him like a still young bonafide top six forward and not what he actually was.

Oh god. He’s the worst player in the league. Let’s move on from Stajan.

Bud, he wouldn't even be the worst player on the Flames at the moment. Matt Bartkowski and Tanner Glass continue to exist.

So with Frk going back to the wings i wonder if the flames will have any interest in Czarnik as a potential value swing?

To add onto the toughness discussion, I think that Hogstrom was brought in to play up and down the lineup in case of injury. He's a hitter, seems to play a lot like Englland. He is also 29 years old and a mostly finished product. I don't think that it's such a huge jump for defensemen coming from the Swedish Elite League, as he just needs to get used to the gaps closing quickly.
(It wouldn't surprise me if Kylington starts the first dozen games to get him used to the show, while Hogstrom plays big minutes in Stockton. They then switch and Kylington plays the big minutes to continue his development.)
Shore isn't a fighter, but isn't a pushover either. And Janko is huge. Also not a fighter, but I could see him leaning on a few guys.

Hypothetically; what do you guys think the Pens would want for Daniel Sprong?
I'm a bit biased on him, but I think he would be a great RW addition. Not the solution ofcourse, but in a role on the 3rd line I could see him develop in a Ferland type of player. Less gritty, more skilled.

Not sure he's even touchable. I imagine the Pens think they have a cheap 30 goal scorer they can slide on Sid or Malkin's wing.

So Flyers are not qualifying Peter Mrazek. I remember he was like the next big young goalie and was doing great with the Wings and he was the number 1 target for goalie on this forum. He fell off though the last 2 years might be a good cheap pick up for the backup spot and who knows, maybe he can find his game again. Smith only has 1 year left anyways.
Thoughts?

Rieder is an ok Plan C, but his production doesn't wow me enough.
12, 16, 14, and 13 goal seasons. 55 goals total and 62 assists.
Coyle has 61 goals and 109 assists during that stretch.
Niedereitter has 87 goals and 82 assists,
Zucker has 89 goals and 71 assists.
If we looking for another top 6 forward (to push Frolik down to the 3rd), I'd prefer any of those 3.

Caps not qualifying DSP, but continue to negotiate with him.
DSP could be a good depth add but his playoff performance might cause a team to overpay.
