You do know Mach was talking about trading for Subban and not those two.
So why is it relevant that those two are the same as what we have?

Yeah but why would they trade Subban? I'm saying dansk and lagace aren't good enough to be backups

I'm talking about signing him next off season not trading for him now.

What cap hit would be palpable for Prixe the next 8 years?

I'd be cool with Price if Montreal retained a metric ton on that deal. Like, maaaaybe if he cost $7 million. But still, why would Montreal ever do that? Having $3.5 non-transferrable dead weight counting against the cap is a fool's idea.

I think a team could swallow Price with a contract of 9.45m (10%) - 8.925m (15%) don’t expect the Habs to go any higher, they can’t afford to retain over 1.5m for 8 years. That’s essentially 1/2 roster players lost or extra money to give someone a raise/sign UFA’s

I'd be ecstatic if we traded for Price. With his contact and injury worries, he'd be relatively cheap (as far as franchise goaltenders go), and this is the kind of move that should Price stay healthy, would put us over the top and into strong Cup contention.
He could also continue struggling with injuries, and it could go down as an awful move and cost all of our head office their jobs, and ruin this team for the next decade. Still fun to think about though!
To CGY
Price @ 9M AAV (10% retained)
To MON
2020 1st Rd Pick
Parsons
Frolik 4.3M
Stone 3.5M
Montreal could probably flip each of Frolik and Stone for 3rd round picks at the 2020 trade deadline, and so ultimately their haul for Price works out to Parsons + 1st + 3rd + 3rd.

It's nearly the same contract as we gave Kiprusoff, beginning in 08/09. Kipper's was a 6yr deal @ 11.60% of the cap, beginning in his 32yo season. Price's contract is an 8yr deal @ 11.32% (assuming a 9M AAV) of today's cap, beginning in his 31yo season.

Most fans have very little perspective on percentage of the cap. They just see $8-10mil AAV and go WOAAHH, Jarome freakin Iginla was only $7m in his prime!!!!

It's not just about the headliners and saying "it's only X% of the cap" though. In the early years of the cap, the young guys and mid tier players weren't making a lot - teams did a pretty good job of holding down those contracts so that they could pay the stars and UFAs.
It has since switched. Second contracts are much larger (thanks, Edmonton), and mid tier guys are routinely making $4 or $5M now. So it isn't necessarily as easy to allocate the same percentages to the top guys as they were earning back then.
Plus, teams are getting deeper. There used to be 5 or 6 core players on a good team. Now it's 8 or 9. So you really have to be conscious of managing those high-end contracts, or you don't have enough room for the rest of the core that you'll need (cough*Edmonton*cough)

Try and find a successful team with a 10mil goalie.

Well there's only one, given that no goalie with Price's resume had approached free agency in this economic reality.
Bobrovsky is UFA this year. He might get $10+. There will be more $10+ goalies and teams will win cups with them.
Carey Price making his money is not the reason the Montreal Canadiens are bad.

First of all, I agree with this.

But since you asked..
10M right now would be 12.6% of the cap.
In 2015, the Rangers were paying Lundqvist 12.3% of the cap, won the President's Trophy, and made it to game 7 of the ECF. I would call that successful.
However - the previous year, Lundqvist made 10.7% of the cap, and the Rangers were not only a better team but went deeper in the playoffs. Against today's cap, 10.7% would be 8.5M which I would probably set as the upper limit for a goalie's salary - and then only for an elite, elite goalie. Price in his prime might be the only guy I'd feel comfortable giving that to, since Bobrovsky has been a no-show in every playoff series he's ever played.

Doesn’t really matter if the goalie makes 10 mil, it’s the balance.
The difference between Smith and Price is $6 mil.
Go ahead and compare the collective salaries of our top players (top 3 forward, top 2 D, 1 G) to successful teams, and get back to me with how crazy adding $6 mil to our mix seems. (Spoiler: it’s not crazy at all)

Of course eventually goalies will make 10mil.
What’s the effect today by adding that to the Flames?
Are you able to resign Tkchuk long term?

You really want to have a goaltender on a $9M contract who will turn 40 in the final year of the contract? Kipper declined considerably in the last 2 years of his contract, after he turned 35 (he retired early and didn't play the final year of that contract). And goaltenders tend to fall off a cliff when they begin that inevitable decline.
