Yeah, him and Chris Cuthbert were the only reason they were still relevant in hockey coverage imo.

Does a guy who was the best in the business earn a 7 figure salary?

Too bad. Mckenzie was my absolute favourite insider and hockey analyst/tv personality.

In Canadian media? No way. Doubt he'd even be close.

An icon, glad he's still going to be around, albeit in a more limited role.

Bob McKenzie seems like such a stand-up guy, hard not to like him.

Wasn’t a huge fan of McKenzie with the lack of taking a stance on where he thinks things would go, but it’s undeniable he was professional and conducted himself well. He’s been on tv since I was a kid. TSN definitely has many holes to fill. When Dreger and Jeff O’Neill are your insiders, time to find someone more legit. I personally think they should bring in Kypreos. That’d be a start.

First of all, you're talking vintage Bob.

He doesnt take a stance because 90% percent of the time he is reporting facts and inferences that can be made from those facts. Hes not an opinion guy most of the time. Which is why when people ask him for his opinion its like pulling teeth.

He gets facts and infers results from there.

Secondly...and call me crazy...but I like Jeff O'Neill. He seems to have a good blend of hockey intelligence, credit and crazy. Hes not 'out there' as a old-school hockey man, but hes credible and he speaks his mind.

Yeah. I think the critique of my comment is fair. Sometimes it’d drive me crazy that he wouldn’t place his point of view because some of the information was obvious. But he’s never been a dislikable guy. O’Neill is polarizing. You don’t want a company shill, which he gets points for. I’m sure he has a lot of sources too. What I don’t like is the personality. The Don Cherry lite is exhausting sometimes. Plus guys addressing him out of their way as O-Dog when the viewer doesn’t know him personally is a bit hockey-bro ish. But that’s not on him.

What a body of work.

You’re the master, Mr MacKenzie. We are in your debt.

Oh, I'm with you 1000% on that one.

But O'Neill is sort of like what people clamor for. Someone less cliche who is willing to speak his mind and give his experienced opinion.

And he has a sense of humour. I like the levity that he brings.
