Clarification on ratings cut off point and who must be in the CPHL
Hey folks
This is one that I mess up every year because it is dang confusing, so want to clarify.
The intent of the waiver rating cut off (as represented in the grids) is to prevent teams from temporarily stashing good young players in the AHL, thus giving them a buttload of cap space for UFA bidding. For example, Pittsburgh could send McDavid down to the AHL, and clear his 8.5M salary temporarily and use to bid on UFAs, and then bring him back up after.
So the rule is intended to solve for that.
Meaning
- If you have a player 23 years age or younger, and above the rating cut off, you need to move them up in to the CPHL by the RFA deadline so you can re-sign a UFA or bid for a UFA. After we are through UFA season you can move them up and down as you see fit
- If you have a player 24 years or older, and above the rating cut off you do NOT need to move them up to the CPHL. If you choose to at any time, they will be subject to waivers if you want to send them back down
