Only an alien hell-bent on retribution against humanity would invent the slotted screwhead.
The Robertson was superior in all ways but no! The Alien Conspiracy got to them!

Probably some weird cult put it there for ceremonial purposes. There seems to be no shortage of cults these days.

It's almost like performance art isn't actually a thing!

One theory I've read about the Monolith in 2001 is that the Monolith is the same dimensions as a movie screen, and that the movie is really a metaphor about film making.
Personally, I think the movie was a contemplation on the nature of intelligence.

When I first heard this story I wondered if the film was shot there and it was just left behind all those years ago.

Excellent. Now conspiracy theories can be combined: it was brought down by socialist aliens and held all the uncounted trump votes from across the country.

Now one has show up in Romania randomly apparently.
If they are even connected in any way, this is clearly performance art and most likely done to be a viral internet hit for social media hits. This is pure Tiktok, YouTube and podcast material, and nothing else.
