Since so many have loved the music, please do read this article about Synthwave which is a revival of the 80s synthasizer sound, my current favorite band "The Midnight" https://themidnight.bandcamp.com/ , is absolutely incredible music.
Once you go down this rabbit hole of this style of music you really get hooked.

I'm fairly critical of movies and TV but this show is worth all of the praise it is getting. Completely captures the essence of 80's film making. As other have said it's like watching a movie directed by Spielberg with a screenplay written by Stephen King and a score from a John Carpenter flick. 9/10.
The music and style was certainly a high point but I honestly felt the story (stories?) itself was kinda flat.
Like it, but felt the ending was flat too. They should have gone with more of an x-files mystery aspect. Instead there wasn't anything unpredictable going on at all.

I have been listening to a lot of New Retro Wave.

Have you checked out Timecop 1983, Reflections? Also The Midnight just released their new album last night, a standout with it so far is Vampires, a sax joy ride!
Started watching this on the weekend and damn, is it good. I'm surprised people have singled out Winona Ryder's acting - it's not like it's great, but I'm pretty sure you guys are mostly just annoyed by her character.

Her acting gets much better after the first few episodes.
IMO she nails the role but in the first few episodes you don't realize she's kind of referred to as a bit of a nutcase around town so it appears she's over-acting. Once the story gets deeper and the characters are fleshed out you begin to understand why she's that way.

Really enjoyed the show, loved being able to watch some slow horror after having my senses pummeled by the conjuring movies, but didn't realize how deep the 80s/90s references went:

I loved it when they finished episode 3(?) with Hazy Shade of Winter. The slow, quiet intro before it kicks in at the credits...goosebumps.
I also thought the writers did a great job with the characters. Steve, for example, could easily have been written as nothing more as the jerk boyfriend but he was really just a regular kid with normal reactions.
Assumed that was what was in Will's mouth when they found him. A bit of an a Alien rip off / homage.
Tend to agree but in the same breath, that also could have come from the impossibly long tube they ripped out of his mouth when they found him.
Also found it humorous that nobody seemed all that concerned with the missing girl. People are losing their s**t over Will but very whatevs as far as she was concerned.
