There isn't a lot of CGI in this film and the actresses aren't huge names (except Margot Robbie) . Think more Kill Bill or John Wick meets Suicide Squad but less music video intros.
If I were to rank the film with the 2019 superhero movies released I would put it ahead of Dark Phoenix , Far From Home and Cap Marvel but below Infinity War, Shazam and Joker.

Wait, you give it an 8.5, but it isn't as good as...ahem...Shazam? Shazam was an OK popcorn flick, but an 8.5 is a pretty mighty bar for a movie, let alone a comic book movie.

I didn't like it so much, neither did my girlfriend. In fact it was barely a step up from Suicide Squad. The actors did what they could, and I always enjoy Robbie. The set design was well done, but didn't make much sense. To me the fault of the movie is the same as many DC movies where they don't know if it wants to be taken as dark and serious or zany and comedic. It wasn't even all that funny or outrageous, I laughed out loud once. The theatre was mostly empty, and no one seemed to enjoy themselves.
I am not a DC hater, I love the Nolan and Burton Batman movies, and the Reeve Superman's. Also love the animated universe, huge fan of anything Bruce Timm does. But none of the recent movies have been all that great. To me Man of Steel is still the best of them, at least it knew what direction it wanted to take. To me the newer films are tonally different throughout, a sign that there was way too many writers or producers having their say.
I am sure some will like it, but it was a disappointment to say the least. The acting was solid, with a better script it might have been worthwhile.

Wait, why are you patrolling the comic book movie thread if you are going to #### on comic book movies?

Because I enjoy some of them for what they are. I'm not saying a comic book movie can never be great cinema, but come on. Shazam? I could see giving it an 8.5/10 for the genre, though even then it's more of a 7. And I'll poop on some of them because they are bad, and that is what the internet is for.
Should I not be able to post in this thread because it is only for people who think all comic book movies are bound for greatness?

You can post wherever you want man, I just thought it was strange because your post made it seem as if you didn't like any comic book films.

I'm just saying some genres kinda have their own rating system. Like, a really good horror movie may be a 9 as far as horror movies go, but in the general movie landscape may be more of a 7. So if BOP is an 8.5, and Shazam is better than that, I'd expect a qualifier like "for a comic book movie". Because I don't think there are many movie reviewers out there that would give Shazam a 9/10. It doesn't leave much room for truly great films.

Sure I can agree with that, particularly with Horror movies. I don't know how many times I've loved a horror film only to see it trashed by critics.
To me, my two favorite genres for movies are horror and superhero (and in particular DC) so I probably rate those movies higher than others. But I will say, I would put Shazam up against a number of other Christmas family movies and feel confident that it's one of the better ones.

The twitter from Nadal isn't working, so I don't know what you're referring to, but the original movie with James Caan and Mandy Patankin was a lot more enjoyable that it should have been.
The tv show did a good job of capturing the best parts of the movie. I always thought District 9 was a good attempt at the same theme.

Well Birds of Prey is a flop, so all that rating discussion was for nothing unfortunately.

The marketing for Birds of Prey has been strange. Is it a Harley Quinn movie? Is it Suicide Squad 1.5? Is it a girl power justice/injustice league? I can’t tell and have no interest in finding out.
