A missed opportunity for his panel mates to make a comment. That would have been great.

Too bad the Edmonton organization is a cult-like cesspool where all past wrongs and literal crimes are disregarded in the name of the hideous crest.

The NHL is getting harder to watch with this crazy inconsistent nonsense. Its so bush league. Really need to sort that out before it becomes a real joke.
Not exactly the same thing. The cross-check in that game that resulted in a suspension didn't leave a mark or draw blood or even hurt, if you look at how quickly McDavid got back up as if nothing had happened.

There was a cross-check to the face in that scrum that did result in an injury that required stitches around the eye to repair... but that cross-check was by Hyman, who didn't even get a fine.

They noted during the game that it was called high sticking and speculated that it was for exactly this reason (so they didn't have to eject him). Tochet was upset on the bench as well.

A joke to call that obvious cross-check a high stick in order to minimize the punishment but par for the course with the NHL's gaslighting game management.

Yeah you're right. It turns out the ref didn't invent a double minor for cross-checking, like I intially thought (since it was in fact the text book definition of a cross-check), he actually changed what happened to a high stick, which does allow for a double minor.

I'm not sure which one is snakier. I guess inventing a double minor for cross-checking would have been easier for people to argue against, so changing it to a high stick at least means he didn't "technically" break any rules.

Edit: Exhibit A, for anyone who missed it...

So, Tocchet is looking to jump start this team right now and there is a chance we see Jonathan Lekkerimaki suit up in an NHL play-off game.

Well they need a little something. Hopefully he takes Cole out, because what a disaster he's been, even if half of it is bad bounces.

We'd loan you guys Kuzmemko back if we could. He'd he a lock to float a couple past AHL Pickard.

Soucy and Hoglander back probably helps next game as well.

Also, what a surprise that there was no media outcry... no social media clip going viral... and therefore, also not a single word from the league about any ensuing discipline.
I've definitely seen clear cross-checks get called "high-sticking" specifically so they can be assessed a double minor.

EDIT: didn't realize I was a page back and other people have pointed this out. whoops!

So are they not going to look into any kind of discipline for the Kane crosscheck to the face? That's back to back games where the Oilers have gotten off scot-free from these acts. How can the rest of the league not see the problem with this?

I saw the oilers take more egregious liberties in that last game after the Canucks came out with the only fines/suspensions in the game prior.

They're probably feeling immune to consequences at this point and are taking advantage.

Sad to see the league go so easy on a group of pukes like them. Punishing Soucy but not Kane is pretty wild.

Yeah you'll never punish an impact forward for the Oilers, but Kane isn't that and he's probably doing his bit intentionally. Missed opportunity to balance the scales and appease vancouvers fanbase like they did edmontons

One of the things I'm surprised that the NHL doesn't see in their protecting and favoritism is that they are really turning new/casual fans off. They may feel the need to 'protect their investment', but the way in which they are doing it is costing them dearly in the future as people aren't interested in watching 'unfair' sports.

I think any "integrity" has gone out the window since some time after the mcwhiner era began. They're more focused on buzz than having these rules enforced by a universal standard that keeps the playing field equal.

Crosby had to fight through a lot of #### in his prime and didn't get help on anywhere near the same level.

Missed opportunity for the Canucks last night. Especially with the oilers saviour Pickard in net. Guy made 19 saves and got a star? Only in dumpsterville.
If the Canucks win that and go up 3-1 they would likely win the series in six, if not five.
Now I see it going to seven. Not sure who’s going to win given the power plays and reffing.

totally, especially when you have state media admitting it and saying it's fine...I quote.

The 3rd round might be the most lopsided 3rd round in history...hopefully it forces the NHL to fix their joke of a playoff format

I really miss the days of 1-8 matchups. The west would've been:

Dallas - Vegas
Winnipeg - Los Angeles
Vancouver - Nashville
Colorado - Edmonton

2nd round would've most likely been
Dallas - Colorado
Winnipeg - Vancouver

Instead we have to watch an overrated Oilers team go through rather than the Jets.

The funny thing is that the east matchups would've been the same in round 1. Round 2 would be as follows:
Rangers - Bruins
Hurricanes - Panthers

No worries, it was an excellent opportunity to dust off the ol' pitchforks.
