To be in fourth on his team in scoring while missing nearly 20% of the
season is pretty impressive for a rookie. Hopefully he's caught up to the
speed of the game now and will have a strong second half.
Sorry, tried to post stats but the formatting ended up a mess. Click here for the stats.
Highlights from the Friars loss, no sound unfortunately. Friars are the team in black, Jankowski #10.
Gilles makes a few sweet stops and ~1:23 mark of the video is Janko's assist, which is pretty nice as he dekes out a defender and slides the puck across for the goal.

Is it possible for him to get a invite to Canada jr team next year?
I remember Bob Mackenzie mentioning Jankowski's name when he was talking about guys that may have gotten an invite this year if there had been an NHL season at the time. So yes, if he continues on the development path he's been taking, he should be invited to camp, maybe even to the summer evaluation.
Would you be surprised if Sven idn't have an assist?
Janko is a very young rookie here.
The poster I responded to was going off the deep end because someone was surprised the kid didn't do much statistically in a blowout game. Generally top players hit the stats sheets fairly significantly in blowouts. Is this one game a sign of poor play, probably not.
I really don't get why great lengths need to be taken to ensure Jankowski is sheltered from any sort of critique? He's a first round pick. Anything short of a great second half this year would be a disappointment and hopefully based on his play of late he should be rounding into form.

That is just silly though. We know Jankowski was a 1st round pick but at the same time we all knew he was a project and was off the board. Jankowski was a player the Flames really think can develop into a potential superstar but no one is expecting it in the next year or two. If anything judge him more harshly next year and compare him to the 2013 first round draft class as he will be closer to the same age as players from that year.
By the end of the year it will be interesting to see how Janko matches up with the top prospects for 2013.
This year I don't care as much what he does. However, next year I wanna see something out of him. I still fear that this pick was just our staff thinking they're more clever than everyone else, but I hope I'm wrong.

I think people take issue with judging a player purely on stats, while at least not admitting that such a viewpoint is very limited.
He's 6th in freshman scoring and is going at .56ppg.
We'd like to see him finish the season around .7ppg. So he's doing pretty good. He had 5 shots on goal last game. He's growing more confident. Remember, he was playing quebec prep schoolers a year ago.

People need to realize he's playing with a bunch of underwhelming players on this Providence team, I think there are only 2 other drafted players on this team and one of them is our own goalie Gillies..Too bad he didn't go to Boston College

Stats don't tell everything. There is elite level skill there, some prospects light the world on fire, others take time to blossom. Considering Jankowski went from 5-6 to 6-3, it would take some time for him to adjust to playing in a different manner (gradually from a perimeter game like most short players play to a bull in a china shop like larger players can). He has a similar skill set that Gaudreau has, he just needs time to make adjustments to adapt to his new frame.

Of the players who have played at least half their games, there are: 4 seniors; 3 juniors; 4 sophomores; and 11 freshmen (including Jankowski and Gillies).
Ideally, they'll all mature together and be a strong team in two years.

they are actually not such a bad team now, although I think Gillies has alot to do with that. In the Hockey East standings they are actually tied for 3rd with Boston University. It looks like they have a decent chance at even having home ice advantage in the 1st round of the Hockey East playoff tourney. I'd love to see Providence and Boston College meet in the HE Championship, but I know it's pretty unlikely.
