Default Official Northern Canada Division Thread Brought To You By Scotiabank: You're Ri.....

Textcritic asked me to open this thread.

Any and all comings and goings that happen in the North Division can be discussed here.

I can't think of anything at the moment but over the season I'm sure there will be some juicy developments!

Well, let's be clear here. I didn't so much as "ask" you to start this thread as suggest that if you wanted it, you could go ahead and start it yourself.

Although I will be honest: given your stated intentions I don't think it will be long before this one is locked up.

okay then

so we're talking about the whole division?

All 7 teams in the division are Canadian. Cool.

Oh, and Leaf fans are special flowers, apparently.

re: Tkachuk incident.

Not a good look for Matty, but impossible to judge intent, and if people do so, it's hard for bias not to show up. I don't see a suspension in his future, possibly a fine. The Eastern Media is eating it up, however. Not surprising as they were already calling for crosschecks to be greatly penalized in the first game of the season.

I have to say I love the North division.
I am way more vested in the games then I would typically be.

Not sure how the players feel, but I wouldn't mind keeping it this way going forward!

I'm loving it too. But I find myself not paying attention to the other divisions and I'd imagine other fans being the same so NHL probably not a big fan of that.

There is no "incident"...full stop.

When a player gets hit hard enough...they fall down.

When the only place to fall has a body lying in that spot, then that body is going to be landed on.

The guys in the player safety department all played the game, so they know how this stuff works in real time and not super slo-mo, frame by frame, living in the Matrix crap.

MT does a LOT of borderline stuff and its part of what makes him an effective player, but this is a "nothing burger" as the kids say.

My initial reaction to the Canadian division is that I find myself totally ignoring the other divisions. And like baseball with the NL and AL, I'd like too see stats tracked by division only.

And while it's still very early, it's starting to look like 5 teams fighting for 4 playoff spots.

For the Tkachuk incident I think it was dirty but there is no way you can prove intent so I doubt there is any punishment.

Only one game in the North tonight Jets v. Sens.

I think Sens win it. They've looked good IMO. Vancouver had a good year last year but they're still a young team and I think some of their fans just assumed it would be a linear progression. Sometimes you backtrack and it looks pretty sloppy from them so far.

Thread intentions; Members who are fans of the 6 other teams rationally discuss the activity of the North Division:

I'm really liking the all-Canadian division so far too, but that could be different when we're playing teams for the 8th, 9th or 10th time in the season.

my concern is that it is going to devolve into a war of attrition

by playoffs, there will be no bodies left and they'll just stand at center ice and hack at each other

agreed.
and while it's kind of fun for a one off season, I'll be glad when the schedule is back to normal.

I tend to agree. As much as I enjoy the early intensity, I am also missing my seething hatred of other rivals like Anaheim and SJ. I need my hate.

We ignore the other divisions because they have zero impact on us this season.

if say next year they kept the Canadian division for being your primary opponents and then we had a smaller amount of outside division games like a typical season I'd imagine wed all pay more attention to other divisions.
